    Hi there,

I've bought a second hand digibox on eBay and will be bringing it to Ireland this week.

I intend to give the box to a member of my family so they can subscribe to the Family pack in Ireland.

Will the box need to be connected to a telephone line permanently or not?

    Regards,

    Richie

You do not need to have the box connected to the phoneline if you have paid for it yourself.

If you can get them the family pack through the UK you would be better off. Just get a credit card number off whoever you are giving the box to, and get the card sent to the UK address and send it on with the box.

Dont sky have a problem with using a credit card with different address details from the billing details?

They will surely spot an Irish credit card being used.

No, for the home this one's going to I would think the Irish channels would be a priority! :p

if you're going to subscribe to sky anyway, you would be just as well to take up their free box offer and pay for installation.you then would have an extra box for another room etc.

Fair point on the Irish channels, unless of course you can get the card through a Northern Ireland address. RTÉ will be available as part of the family pack to viewers in the north.

Other than that bmg's idea is good, however you will need to keep the free box connected to the phone line for a year. I think someone was saying that Sky were not the strictest about this as they mainly want the money from the subscriptions, however they may get stricter now with the Irish interactive services coming on line.

possibly the point here is that rlogues friends don't have a landline and hence the need for the e-bay box?

I dont think that is a problem because I used my brothers credit card to order a prem plus season ticket in december
