I'm trying to fix a friends puter......man is it driving me mad

when loading windows after a format it crashes at setting up hardware with

A fatal exception has occured at 0028:c0005338 in VXD VMM (01)+00004338
    and then **** all

So then Macker went into the BIOS and disabled this and that ....I know ....I
    know .....don't preach

Any way now when I try to boot up I get **** all ......except

2 quick beeps (pause) 8 Beeps (long pause) 2 beeps (slight pause ) 1 beep

How do I get back into the bios to undo the damage and why did I get the first error message

    HELP!!!!!!!!!!

    Macker

Disconnect/remove the cmos battery which will be on the board somewhere.
Leave it out for a while.
When you put it back in, the board should have reverted to default BIOS settings.

I would try reseating RAM and Graphics card etc etc.. Failing that, have a look at the mother board manufacturers website and try and find what the error code means (they usually have a list of all beep codes).
