Strange bug on the KT7- RAID!!!

    lo all

ok I just got my two IBM 30Gig 75GXP drives, and like any good computer nerd I thought "what would it be like to have these drives as a RAID 0 array at ATA100" (UDMA5).....quite nice I can tell you!!!!! windows loads in 15 seconds with all my drives and crap installed.

But I did have a very strange prob at the start (past two days). When I would start the computer with the RAID drive in UDMA5 mode it would crash(if I tried to do anything) so I tried to lower the modes it was using......in PIO 0 it would work fine but I lost a lot of speed. so after a bit of looking around, the good ppl at the boards for http://www.hardocp.com told me to try http://go.to/kt7faq after a bit of reading I found two probs that matched mine.

1)..A timing prob soon to be fixed in a BIOS update by highpoint. but until then you could try and higher your FSB by 1MHz.

2)..If you had a disk from your array on the second IDE RAID controller and a Hollywood+ card in a PCI slot on your system. The comp would crash and the HD light would stay on. The fix to this one is two things, first you could try to move the disk to be the slave on the first IDE RAID controller (losing out on some speed) or you could take out the card......as I'm running a 1.015Gz comp I figured I did not need the DXR3 card in my system (hollywood+ and the creative DXR3 are the same cards with diff frame ware)....so I took it out and now it works fine!!!!! This is also soon to be fixed but I just have to say ROFLMAO

The card just needs to be in a PCI slot no drivers and not even hooked up to anything and it will lock the system (even in D.O.S)

ps.....yes now I do have 60Gigs of RAID 0 sweetness!!!!!

Good god man are you mad!!!!!! smile.gif

no you'll never even get it to boot with a 200w psu, you'll need a 300w psu to be safe and get a stable use out of it. you have to remember that every thing in the comp will use power from the psu. if your thinking of getting a 1.1Gz T-bird you'll need a lot of cooling, a very good cpu heatsink and fan is the GlobleWin FOP38 but it is very very noise, I'v been told by Gerry that over the phone it sounds like I'm beside a plane or in traffic!!!. still it keeps the heat right down, you'll also need a good intake fan and an out take fan. the intake fan should blow right on to the heatsink (I'm using a 120mm fan that blows onto the heatsink and Ge-force DDR) but to get back on track..... a 300w psu is not very dear (30-50 pound) if your going to peats(i think i read your news post) I say don't. you can find a better price online try http://www.overclockers.co.uk but make sure the psu that you get is AMD approved.

hope some of this helps, if you have anymore probs just post here.

    Hey Stone!
Where were you thinking of getting your ABit kt7 from? I think they're kinda awkward to get. I got one recently from ITDirect in Dublin, but I had to twist their arms to get them to order it in especially. They were the only ones who would get it in for me (well that is they were the only ones I knew of.) Its kinda expensive aswell for a student such as myself, but It is a really cool board.
