Logo for a Band

I designed this for a friend that wanted a logo for his band. The Band is called "Saviour", so he said do an Angel like figure or something.

I already had one done, which I posted once before on a "show us your desktop" thread. This one is based on the same theme. Call it version 2 if you like. I just wanted to make a fresh one for this Band.



I drew the figure on paper first, and scanned it in.

Coloured the drapes and the skin. Higlighted some facial features and added hair taken froma photograph.

I got the wings, water and water reeds free from some computer arts CDs.

Drawing is good, the hair just doesnt seem to fit...

It seems fine to me. Tell me in more detail. Advise me on how to improve/fix it.

i dont know much about art but i think hes right, the hair is a bit too bright compared to the rest of the pic.
maybe if you made it a bit darker or changed the colour of it

hair is great. Dont change the colour. The only problem is that it looks as if its just overlaid on the body underneath. It needs a bit more solidity where the hair flows over the sholders.

one other problem is that i think you lost the drawing at the head. the rest of the piece is great but the head is wrong. I know its one of the most dificult parts to get looking right. The neck is too long and her head is at an odd angle. but i think if you fix the hair where it goes down the front of her faice and neck it should hide most of those issues.

Hmm, regardless of the details, a logo is not something I would generally think of as being as complex as that. I mean, if it's going to depict a scene it's normally just a line drawing... what about trying to come up with a line drawing based on the angel figure?

As regards the hair issue... I think it's more to do with the fact that the head looks as though it's hanging off, which I gather is actually what you want. I guess it just looks a bit disconcerting.

Would make a decent enough album cover for a metal group... wouldn't be entirely original though...

Make the barbed wire around her neck and the blood (that is blood right?) stand out more and the head will fit better. Don't ask me how exactly to do this, it's a really great pic and I'm waaaaaaaay out of my depth here.:)

Oh and make the chin clearer too, I find that if the chin is hard to see in pics it makes the head look all weird.

Afiak u got the blend of hand and digitaly rendered work spot on.
It only problem with the illustration, is the neck, as i can see it. It looks a little too long, and Broken? unless it ment to be like that ?

Anyhuse, It'd be kickass as a cd sleeve or flyer, it wont work as a logo tho.
Logo's genrally have to be simple symbols, or Modifed type forms to work as logos. You could keep with the angel idea, and refine it down to simple shapes?
The more u reduce & refine it the more expressional it becomes
Less, is most definatly more in this area.

Heh...As to the comment of it being an Album Cover as opposed to a logo, the band members said the same thing. I like the hair the way it is, but what I might do, if possible, is lower the head over the neck. This will be a really hard task considering there's about 20 layers on the head and some are attached to the body.

This is the annoying thing about using hand drawings...but the final product is usually worth it.

I reccomend having someone assume the position and draw from life

or when im stuck for a model, i pose a figure in Poser and draw from that.

I DO think a bit of tweakin of the head is in order awright and will perfect it....

Yea, it is the head/neck actually, the hair was just what stood out when I looked at it first :]

Here, I've modified it a bit. I've lowered the head, taken away the barbed wire from her neck, and put more hair in and made it contrast with the background. Hope this is better.

I also put more highlights on the body...and the tits (requested by the bass player )

How about making her hair fall over her right shoulder a little more?

Also, her head looks like it's maybe a little far back on her body...

Finally, does the poor lassie have any nipples?
