UTV make deal re branding with Carlton and Granada

    It seems that UTV have finally reached an agreement with Carlton and Granada over the use of the ITV brand.

    The first result of this agreement will be the arrival of ITV2 in Northern Ireland from Friday.

    So what does this mean ?

    Well for a start it's got to mean that UTV2 is very likely to close.

    Secondly, it means that ITV Sport Channel will be able to launch up North.

    Thirdly, it may mean that when UTV reach an agreement to appear on the EPG in the Republic, ITV2 may be part of the deal.

    Meanwhile Channel (that plucky little station for the Channel Islands) is still battling it out with the giants of Carlton and Granada over the ITV brand. They obviously have a high opinion of their position in the ITV network (Have you ever seen their station ident ? It's a spinning globe, with no other land masses than the Channel Islands !!)

    Just confirmed, ITV2 will replace UTV2.

    So it's goodbye to all those daily two-hour choral competitions that we all dreamed of seeing one day !!

    This deal only really effects DTT, Charles, ITV Digital.

    UTV 2 will disappear on Friday, Media Guardian confirmed (see Digital Terrestrial forum for that article)

    But we should see more ITV Digital ads on the ould UTV, along with more cross-promotion.
