Hiyes Im probably in for a load of abuse but I do find tthe sport of Cricket fascinating.

Blame it on my indian roots I suppose but I love it...especially one day cricket.
Its a very tacticul and skillful game.

Was just wondering if there was anyone else out there who enjoy the sport?

I seem to remember a few surfacing in another thread on another board, that was helpful wasn't it !

I'm sure they will make themselves known. I used to play cricket very briefly when I was in School (years ago) but I never really got into it. I hate seeing it on TV as well, bores me stupid.

I enjoy watching Cricket whenever I get the chance. Its definitly a highly skilled game to play and the one day cricket is really interesting to watch. Its amazing the way people simply fob it off claiming that theres no skill involved etc.

    Yep, Big Cricket Fan :D

I spent my teenage years addicted to the sport. I played in both in school(CUS) and with my club(Leinster). Travelled all over Ireland and UK playing and watching cricket [won a few things along the way;)]

Heres a signed pic of myself and mates when we met Hansie Cronje when he played 4 matches for Ireland in the B & H cup in 1997. [ http://www.boards.ie/members/80project/hansie.jpg ](I've got loads of other pics with players- Alec Stewart, Graham Thorpe etc. if your interested)

Do you play yourself Washout (chances are I'll prolly know you) or are you just a fan??

I'm a big fan and could watch it all day on TV and support Lancashire the 1day specialists. But what always amazes me is that whenever England play there is a report on every radio stations sports bulletin. Why?
In fact come to think of it, whenever there is a cricket test be it England, Australia, South Africa, the Windes, Pakistan,New Zealand, India etc it'll be on the Irish Radio & TV stations. Why?

Its not like it's that popular in Ireland? Now is it?

Its very popular for watching or listening too, but lets face it, Ireland is not climatic-ly condusive to standing in a field for a few hours on end in your whites is it?

nah ireland isnt a great country to play it in.

my parents are from india and ive been over a couple of times and its amazing to see there how passionate they are about the sport...pity the indian cricket team isnt up to scratch. I dont know why but everytime i watch england play i always cheer for the opposition no matter who they are.

They were broadcasting the Ashes Series live on internet radio last summer. That was so great...really made my day to be in work and being able to semi doss and enjoy it.

Cricket is a mark of civilisation except when India meet Pakistan of course!

Seriously though, its a great game and there is nothing like a good 5 dayer between two in form sides, the one day stuff is for the curious.

    Mike.

    Your right there Washout,
Its not a great country to play in mainly due to the climate and the poor preparation of pitches. How do they expect us to produce int'l standard batsmen when we play on "puddings". The same applies to England- Just look at the co-relation between the the top batsmen in the world and the pitches they play on.....its all southern hemisphere or sub-continent players.

If your staying in Ireland for a while you should at least join a club and play a few games. There is a (very) big socialising aspect to it;)

I might just do that 80project...I might just do that indeed...god kjnows i might even play...i have all the equipment...

i have four brothers and we used to play on the patio..away from the windows and hit the ball down the lawn we lived in the countryside so loads of space to play...and stuff but a cricket ball was too hard so we used to use a sliotar...great for the odd deviating delivery :)

    oh them were the days
