    smbmount is what you want.

Theres quite a few options for it, take a look at the manpage for smbmount.

    Micro

For ease of setting up samba, use SWAT which comes with samba. swat is the samba web administraion tool.

Also the latest version of samba can allow XP/2k logins and provide very similar if not the same features of a PDC. this has been long awaited. give it a try and let us know how you get on :)

actually come to think of it, this should work fine:

    smbclient //WINDOWS-BOX/SHARE/ -U WINDOWS-USERNAME

just tried that there and it connected to a win98 share on my network perfectly, the username is optional but you'll probabaly need it when accessing the XP/2k share.

once you run that command, it will prompt you for a password, just press enter if you didnt set the username argument beforehand. It should then display a smb: \> prompt.

Don't know too much about the syntax, I think it uses some different from standard shell commands.

You might have a problem with those long windows filenames though :)

what do you mean by PDC?

are you saying it can act like a NT doman name server? where did you hear about that?

i was under the impression that it was very illegal to do that

I assume he means primary domain controller and fail to see how it would be illegal.

    .logic.

As logic1 said i mean Primary Domain Controller not domain name server, and either way it would in no way be illegal.

a good place to start to find info on such things as Name Servers
and Domain Controllers is microsoft.com :P
