Will a 300W PSU suffice for an athlon xp 1800+ ? Hope to have a cd-writer in there soon aswell, in addition to the usual rig out.

I've run a 1900+ off a 300w psu with no problems, I don't really think you need to go forking out for anything with higher output.
The XP runs cooler (hence needs less power) than the tbird, so your 1800+ xp which runs at 1533 mhz will need around the same amount of power as a tbird 1.4 ghz, perhaps slightly more.
