    http://www.aliaswavefront.com/freemaya

Alias|Wavefront is making Maya available to anyone and everyone for FREE, You're free to output your images as you see fit, so long as they're not used commercially...and to help ensure no commercial use there is:

Also, a WATERMARK is displayed on all rendered output.

Furthermore, normal maya plugins will not work in the Learning Edition of maya.

Your learning license lasts one year and can be renewed by contacting Alias|Wavefront.

    Brillent idea.

One of the reasons Max is so widely used is cos there a way more ppl that know it, due to the amount of pirite versions there are knocking about as compared to maya , Softimage etc.

    Seems they're copping on..

Know i just need a SGI machine to do my animations in under a month.

most sgi machines are a lot slower at rendering than modern pc's. sgi's big advantage was always their advanced video subsystems, not fast rendering.

this is a fantastic move for Alias, as learning doesn't always happen in schools.

"Also, a WATERMARK is displayed on all rendered output."

Can't you just screen grab by pressing the print screen button and pasting the inage into photoshop? If this is possible is therre any real point in having watermarks ? Or am I just talking rubbish ?

You have to render out to get a proper img,

even if you have it set to display all it maps it only quick renders it in view ports
