The time it takes for boards.ie to "open up" is getting longer and longer...

From the moment I pressed the New Thread button it took over two mins for the page to form, for about half that time the activity indicator was stone dead, I'm able to access other web sites without difficulty so whats the problem here? is it the server, bad coding...? somethings up and if things get much worse I'll be visiting less often from hereon.

    :Frustrated::mad:

    Ok, I dont understand.

It took 4 seconds for me to reply to this thread... and lately since the compression was turned on, its much nippier.

Anyway, to be absolutely sure, we are going to move the server to Ireland and install it on BSD with much more ram, HD and CPU power. That should improve things.... if it doesnt then for once in my life I'll happily and truthfully tell someone.... ITS NOT OUR FAULT hehhe

Hang in there, the move happens sometimes in the first 6 weeks of the new year afaik.

I dunno, it's actually working quite fast (as usual) for me. I'm still connecting through a 56k dial-up.

But I do like the idea of hosting in Eire, and on BSD. TBH I didn't even notice that it was hosted abroad in the first place.

It's been dead slow for me over the last two days...
Even when connecting with dual channel ISDN it takes ages for a page to load....

The reply page began loading instantly and took a few seconds to appear on my 56k, seems fine to me. It is slower sometimes though.

Today its much quicker the only diff is I'm on IOL rather than UTV
which I tend to use as its cheaper. Is thier any reson why the two should behave differently whem speeds are similair and access to other web sites, including graphic heavy ones is
    the same?

Also while I'm in complain mode, does anyone else find that the pages form in a jerky fashion because of the use of avatars,
    smilies etc?

    That's web pages for ya.

Speedwise, it's fast enough so I don't even feel the urge to whinge. Which is fast.

UTV could have terrible routing, could have an upstream service provider which is logjammed and having contention on their lines, or could simply not have enough bandwidth themselves....

I'm pretty sure the problem is with their routing tho... just a guess.

Yip. UTV have been having routing difficulties for nearly a week now, and Boards.ie has been all but inaccessible from them. I reported this in another thread the other day.

thought about hosting it in the uk, ifhere is such a problem, probably cheaper to, and it wont be that much slower
but then you wont have access to the machine

Can't all the images on the boards be given a set size width and height so even before they are loaded the images will take up the same amount of space on the page as they would loaded ? (Avoiding the jerkiness)

Are people using their member space to create external links, is boards.ie bandwidth being used for 'other' purposes.
