Has anyone here ever had a look at the RTE feeds (not Tara) on Intelsat 601 at 34.5W? What's on there? Due to tree coverage in that direction I've never been able to have a look...

Unfortunately I don't have a steerable dish or FTA digital receiver, so all those feeds are a mystery to me.

Hopefully I'll invest sometime in the new year, and then I'll have folks like you plagued for info.

By the way if RTE can send feeds to Intelsat, what's to stop them going onto Sky Digital immediately using what they have, and then switch to using their new dish when it's built ?

Forget 34.5 W unless u have a massive dish. I can't get the TARA feed there at all - if it is there???

I have also tried, but I cannot pick up anything from this satellite using a 1m dish. I have read that one should be able to receive it with a 1.2m dish, but I am sceptical.

    Hi All!!,
I have a 1.2 mtr motorised dish, and I can get a good signal for Tara, nothing on the feeds frequencies. But since Tara was taken away from us Irish sky viewers at 28.2, the picture on 34.5 W is also unavailable (At least to me). Anybody who might know why I get a signal but no picture, get back to me.:D

Something to do with the video and audio pids - apparently it is notoriously difficult to tune in and lock up. RTE used 34.5 W for an uplink because it is cheap- mUslim Tv (Mta) used to be on it in analogue -receivable with a 80cm dish. Maybe RTE are directly uplinking it to 28.2 E??

If so, then why do they need a new dish? I thought that they uplinked it to 34.5W, and Sky got the broadcast from there and uplinked to Astra themselves.

Your decoder show be able to pick up the audio/video pids if it has a TP scan facility, which to be honest is nothing special, so you should be able to view Tara.

If you want to give me £1000000 i will go look*

    *=Feb 2nd 2002 = 5 blissful years without watching RTE.
