Article which, imo, brings going over the top to the proportions which we used to see in Judge Dredd :). This is complete lunacy, and strangely coming from America, where they proudly declare their so-called 'freedom'

It's a stupid article about a stupid problem about Asa who is also stupid. None of us in America are watching this. No one is interested in reading the ingredient label on a package of organic corn chips. We're far too busy wondering when the next effing fundamentalist Muslim is going to walk onto a plane with plastic explosive packed into his colon.

Per freedom, we're apparently free enough that a reporter like this young lady in Ohio can find space to vent her spleen. 'Detached' and 'alienated' are words that come to mind.

You've been watching too much BBC daytime television. We're kicking fascist asses over in Afghanistan. Besides, who needs caffine? Unless, of course, that's some crucial ingredient for Irish beer.:o

The three earnest young men burdened with plastic bags came to the office bearing food...Tortilla chips....THC, as those who came to the age of majority in the 1960s know well, is tetrahydrocannabinols. As DEA succinctly explains: "That's the hallucinogenic substance in marijuana that causes the psychoactive effect or high."

No wonder I can never ge enough of em! :D

The yanks have a regulation for everything and it seems the more
trivial the isssue the greater the regulation, guns on the other hand....

the crucial ingredients for guinness are malted barley, hops, yeast and water.

You've been watching too much BBC daytime television. We're kicking fascist asses over in Afghanistan.

i just hate to wonder what kind of daytime TV you were watching to make you think that there are fascists in Afghanistan.

everyone in america knows that the war on drugs has been a complete and a very costly failure while canada and most of the europe liberalize laws against marijuana, arrrests in the US for marijuana violations are on the rise.

if i were so patriotic as Medogsbstfrnd i'd be growning vast amounts of hemp and be more like George Washington and Thomas Jefferson who grew hemp as primary crops on their farms.

Hey, the Americans let Bush & Co rig the election, so let them live with the consequences, the Americans want arsenic in their water that is their issue, the Americans want to go messing up their own national parks looking for oil? Who cares so long as they don't dump said oil into the atmosphere, heres to the Atlantic ocean huh?

you'd be growning hemp...heh heh now that's funny. Says something, I suppose. You could always be growning hemp over in Afghanistan with those civil and enlightened ones. After all, they love growing poppies. Their daytime t.v. sucks, however.

Yeah, we in America are regulated into slavery. That's why so few people in the world are lining up to get into this oppressed country.

Just for clarification: I was not the one who posted that Washington was "growning" hemp. It seemed a silly notion of freedom from my perspective anyway. Let's see: 1. Washington grew hemp. 2. Washington was free and fought for freedom. 3. I should go to Afghanistan where they grow poppies and traffic in heroin because they will be even freer. DUH

Washington might have grown tobacco but to be honest, I've no idea what he grew. He had wooden teeth. He led his country to freedom. And there's a helluva monument to him in this city named after him.

What? Did I mention Mexico? Where did that come from? You think only Mexicans want to live in America? They're coming from all over the world, baby. And I'm not bragging about it, I'm making a point about the stupid notion posited in an earlier post that because some lame politician wants to control a substance then that somehow translates into America being pathetically enslaved or oppressed or not free; and I was reacting to the fact that some Irish lads on this board are thanking their lucky charms that there is a huge ocean between America and Ireland (apparently forgetting I can traverse it by jet in about 8 hours). We're actually free here. We're not the only free place on the planet. I don't think we're the best people on earth and I'm not suggesting your country isn't a darn great place to live in. Just spare me the drama of America being an oppressive place because you can't get all the drugs you want on any given day. You want to live some place where you can get free needles to shoot up some sh*t into your veins, then more power to you. That notion of freedom, however, looks eerily like slavery and addiction to me and guess what? I'm not obligated to accept such a malnourished concept of freedom. But more power to you. Afghanistan was the leading producer of heroin. You think they were free? Well, they're on their way to freedom now. They now got a chance at freedom. Because some Yanks and Brits and a few other countries had the balls to confront the religious madness of some fanatic, frothing, sixth century trogladytes who financed their hideous notions of freedom with drugs. Someone put on Neil Diamond for me!

ps. the american general election system = gerrymandering, which is illegal on *this* side of said ocean.

    ger·ry·man·der (jr-mndr, gr-)
    tr.v. ger·ry·man·dered, ger·ry·man·der·ing, ger·ry·man·ders
To divide (a geographic area) into voting districts so as to give unfair advantage to one party in elections.

    n.
    1. The act, process, or an instance of gerrymandering.
    2. A district or configuration of districts differing widely in size or population because of gerrymandering.

Right. Well, one can always remain neutral in the face of great evil, eh? There's something you have experience with. So the Irish won't be sending troops over to Afghanistan. No surprise there. Perhaps you can send Enya over to put them to sleep.

As for voting districts, I certainly never made a claim that democracy in America is perfect. It has its problems to be certain. Since your side of the ocean is such a beacon of democracy and freedom, perhaps we can arrange for a replica of the Statue of Liberty to be sent to you.

LOL? In what exactly? Your talking about WWII? Not like the US that remained neutral as well huh?

Well wasn't it sent from Europe (France) to you guys? :)

You know I would love to hear your opinion on beacon of democracy. It's OK to call each other names but how about some actual information for those of us (ie. me) who have no idea what you are talking about.

I think the Simpsons halloween episode summed up the US election process lovely. :)
Kang: It's true! We are aliens! But what are you going to do about it? It's a two party system! You have to vote for one of us!
Man in Crowd: Well, I'm just going to vote for a third party!
Kang: Go ahead! Throw your vote away!! HA HA HA HA!!!

Why not just send the original back to France, seeing as that's where it came from in the first place?

OK, I'm not flaming you, I've just picked this post as I think there is a misunderstanding afoot on this thread.

Hemp is NOT Marijuana. Hemp has no psychtopic effects what so ever, this is why Hemp is grown in great amounts in Canada amoungst other places.

Marijuana and poppies do or can produce substances that do have psychotropic effects, so they are illegal.

    I'm making a point about the stupid notion posited in an earlier post that because some lame politician wants to control a substance then that somehow translates into America being pathetically enslaved or oppressed or not free;

Hear, hear! And on that note I'd reckon America have the some of the strictest tobacco control laws. I don't think anybody can fault them for that. I wish our government would do the same.

Opium can only be made from certain types of poppies. Other types are not illegal, I've got some in my garden.

The banning of the substance found in the snack food was obviously stupid.

Ok hypocrit wasn't really what I meant.

I mean to say is that I doubt you would be saying that if you hadn't given up and won't be saying that if you start up again.

It's not the government's job to stop you from smoking, it says they KILL you on the pack so what more do they need to do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,468 ✭✭✭Evil Phil

Well no, I've always thought that they were on a winner there. I smoked because I was an addict, not because I wanted too. And I hated smoking.

I do think that it would be a lot fairer if public areas had isolated smoking areas. Its unfair that non-smokers have to share the smoke, this was really what I was thinking of.

By that logic, why are other drugs illegal then? Surely the government should legalise them all, gain taxes from their legal sale, and simply put health warnings on them as well?

People like you need to snap out of it, and stop attacking/slagging other people for no actual reason... or rather because you haven't got the intelligence to debate properly you simply diss other's spelling/grammar.... ahhhhh :( you just might drive me insane.... really :)

<edit>after I made this post I decided my slags/namecalling might be a bit viscious, I simply want to state it's not big nor intelligent to slag someone's spelling. It's foolish, and it really annoys me and others here too. Also, would you believe!!! I made some mistakes in the post!!! :) Original slags/name calling kept for prosperity.</edit>

You beat me to it, I was going to play the Flaming Muppet card.

Anyway, America or going way over the top with their new (draconian) laws. Here in Ireland we've seen where these kind of laws go, being labelled terrorists too. And we've seen these laws produce a Gilford Four and a Birmingham six so we're very wary of them.

What really gets my goat is suddenly Bush is talking about the international community when it comes to bombing Islamic countries, but not when it comes to weapons proliferation treaties, the Kyoto protocol and just generally being a good neighbour. America need to start pulling they're weight with the rest of us on these issues.

:) Ahhhhhhh....that's useless, I thought that abuse was good.
Anyway, as far as I'm concerced America and Americans (generalisation) or the majority of them, are OTT of late. I mean, also unwilling to accept the truth or to listen to other's points of view.
A friend and I were on another forum, shortly after 9/11 discussing the why? of the attacks, and our opinion on it. They kept deleting our posts, it was an american stone temple pilots page.... but every single time, and they were spouting crap to us like "we're gonna get the FBI on your asses".... now we honestly weren't trolling or anythin.... but they were being áss holes, and most forums I've seen they are being the same.
That pretty much sums my thoughts up, nobody (or very few Americans) is/are willing to take a look at their own country and see that they're not the most amazing/powerful blah, blah blah, everyone knows the argument.... it's a blatant blank of the truth.... ah im waffling.... I don't really care

thin-skinned, aren't we? Let me get this straight: you guys get self-righteously pissed off that I noted someone, while calling my country fascist, happens not to spell very well but you believe it is intelligent or somehow bravely honest to generalize that Americans aren't up to the truth? What bullsh*t. Put my post back up and deal with its truth and its opinionated statements or try to be bravely honest and admit your Irish board can't stand a little challenge. the only thing remotely resembling fascism is this board. Deleting posts that skewer your poorly reasoned, mis-spelled point of view is pathetic. It is *Laughable* that you and yours come rolling in to defend a fellow Irishman for having been put on the spot for a mis-spelling but you think it fair and civilized discourse to call my country fascist. God almighty, why do you have a friggin' statue of Oscar Wilde? Guess the pigeons need a place to stoop and poop. Here's to waffling.

I didn't call your country fascist bud... I simply said it's not big or clever to take the píss out of someone's spelling, I also abused you quite alot, but I think that was deleted before you got the chance to see it. I then continued, to retell a story of how myself and a afriend were "censored" and snipped on an american board because they wouldn't deal with the arguments we were giving them.... which varied on foreign policy and other shíte to do with 9/11, I asked someone a question why this all happened and they told me some bullshít about bin laden wanting to rule the world and he's a mean man, and then that person continued to ask me "why he would do this to us?", "what did we do wrong?" blah, fúckin blah...bullshít...naievity (spelling? :) and general ignorance......

That's what my post was about.... I didn't say you were fascist... in fact I haven't even properly read the thread.... just mainly your points, and I've seen them all before... united we stand crap!!! I probably shouldn't even post here, 'cos I think you were talking about washington smokin or growing weed a while back.... I tell you if he was, then good on him :D
