Not sure when it is out, but Coming Attractions list it as 'In the Can'.

E.T., surly a timeless casic as it is, is being released for its 20th aniversary - but with a few changes.
...such as the removal of the government agents' firearms in scenes where there are children, as well as the redubbing of certain words (for instance, Elliot's mother now scolds the children for wanting to get dressed up for Halloween as "hippies" instead of "terrorists".)"

..ok, so calling them 'terrorists' would be a bit extreme now-a-days, but the removal of firearms? fs. Apparently there being replaced with feckin mobile phones.... in the 1980's! Kinda ruins the feeling of the film.

    opinions?

In all fairness, they don't replace the rifles with mobile phones, they replace them with big-ass 80s walkie-talkies. They don't look entirely out of place, and unless you were a hardcore E.T. weenie, you probably wouldn't notice the difference.

On a similar note... I wonder what they're going to do with Rambo III, after the Sep.11th bruhaha... The entire film is "Dedicated to the courageous fighters of Afghanistan", and includes such memorable scenes as Col. Trautman chastising a Russkie for "bombing an innocent, defenceless, primitive country".

mongness thats all i can say.

That's utterly dreadful, not only do we get propaganda in films released nowadays, but we have to have it in old films as well. Mongness I say again.

This sort of Revisionism isnt just obnoxious , cynical and stupid , isnt it a little pointless , I mean i doubt anyone would even hear notice the word "terrorist" let alone take offense ..Muppetry of the highest order

did anyone else think it was nuts that rte had a rambo season just after sept 11th?

Not really, I mean the connection with the events of September 11th and the Rambo fims is pretty much non-existant.

Good God but I hate Spielberg, he made some classic films but this kind of reediting of films is bad.

Will he edit the guns out of Saving Private Ryan next ?
