Next January the southcoast collectors will be knocking on the carrigaline doors(as always) But when you give them the £50 they give you a news sheet which includes any recent news.
And heres a sneak preview(more like a prediction)

Southcoast tv is a community funded project which started back in the late eighties, since then we have relied on your generous contributions. And in return we have given you top quality welsh channels. We would like to thank you for funding our court cases and for the jeep. But we still need your money!
In return we will update our site in the near future and we will also bring in the digital when its financally viable.
We are also planning to open our own tv station called sctv which will be availible to all subscribers this will include programmes such as "carrigaline uncovered" and "countrywatch". We will also have our own radio staion which will inlcude traffic reports and up to date news concerning the southcoast community.

But all this needs funding so from January 2002 we will be increasing the annual rate from €50 to €125. But in the future the increase will be well worth it.

sounds like a very accurate prediction compared to what they've done in the past. Southcoast are the reason I got sky digital :)

That website of theirs is cronic. It looks like a 10 year old designed it for free (quite likely) and it hasnt been updated since the dawn of time. I'm starting to think this 'digital tv' of theirs was a bit of a prank they were playing on the public. Their target date for installation was September 2001. Its now practically jan 2002 and still not even any word on if they are testing it or not. Having said that however I would be interested to see what internet product (if any) they will release with digital. It cant be any worse than eircom's adsl offer but knowing sctv there will be something around 80% downtime due to 'technical problems'.

Its funny you mention a local TV channel for Carrigaline. I emailed sctv back around the first quarter of 2001 enquiring if there would be a 'public access' channel available on the digital service. I heard nothing from them at all but read in the paper a couple of months back that they were planning to release a local/public access tv channel. Now either my email gave them the idea (in which case, pay me) or they never got my email and managed to think of it all on their own.

roflmao @ 'carrigaline uncovered'. Now that would be comedy at its finest. The only thing of interest in carrigaline is the pub. In fact, pubs are the only thing in carrigaline.

"This week, Carrigaline Uncovered will delve into the seedy moonlighting activities of several 15 year olds who indulge in activities like bushin', sneaking into rosies at the weekends and smoking in the school toilets"

I can see the ratings now.. thru the roof. :D

The only way they will be able to justify a subscription increase is if they start rolling out the digital service. If they increase the sub and people see nothing advancing, there will be hell to pay. I know some pro-sctv activist is probably going to reply to this giving out to me about how brilliant sctv are and how they carried batteries up the hills back in the 80's. I dont care about the 80's. Long gone and will never return (unless my time machine starts working).

On the off chance that anyone from sctv is reading this: C'mon with the new services.. Not so much digital TV cos half of the homes in the sctv area have already got that thru sky. However I'm sure many will agree that a broadband service would be very welcome in the southcoast areas.

Its now Sept 2006 and still no sign of digital tv from southcoast.

On the bright side, their website has disappeared
    ;-)

Woah, timewarp.... They might as well scrap the plans for digital now and jump straight into HDTV. That should only take another 8/9 years of planning :D

It was annoying back in 2001, now it's just plain funny. I wonder if they're still planning on rolling out a digital service...
