    shows that AMD are no better than Intel, i remember about 2 years ago AMD said they wouldnt be multiplier locking their processors, "ever", then they brought out athlons etc that were multiplier locked, but you could attach some card to them to unlock the multiplier so noone said anything..

    yeah Athlon's were hard to overclock, but it wasnt impossible, and it was worthwhile doing. Orginally, the only way to do it was with solder and some very intricate work.

    But devices like the goldfinger made it a bit easier, now companies like ocuk make up batches of modified chips, so its pretty much the norm.

    Sadly, the new durons and thunderbirds will be incredibly difficult to modify without damaging the chip, afaik it involves scratching down the contacts between the bridges...which is not something I would even attempt.
