Newbie question about Sky Digital

If I want Sky Digital can I choose my own hardware and order the smart card from them? (like in the Analogue days) Or am I forced to use one of those digibox things?

you have to use a Sky digibox for Sky digital viewing with a subscription. the reason for this being that there are no Videoguard cams available to buy for receivers with spare slots for extra cams. it's not a bad deal though for the installation considering the box is yours after a year
