I've just upgraded to 6.0, and they are still screwed.

    It works here: http://www.webmasterbase.com/examples/dhtmlpopup.html

C'mon, it USED to work, what did you do? I find that I'm using boards a whole lot less since it stopped working... cheap gits probably broke it on me to save on bandwidth charges. :)

Weren't the drop down menus supposed to have been improved?
They are still the same, only now they are missing the little asterisks which tell you whether there was a new post or not?

    WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,842 ✭✭✭phaxx

The drop down menus are static now, as opposed to being automatically generated from the database for every request, and so the little asterisk could be put in.

(As far as I know, anyway)

The old way of doing it queried the database a lot for the little asterixes to show boards with new threads in them since the last time you visited. They also weighed in at 30k for them alone.
We've slimmed them down and made them static to try and improve performance.

We'll be updating them again to make them become local to your machine so they dont have to be downloaded at all but remain resident on your machine.

Opera users could help us by taking the jscript, cutting it into a blank html page and figuring out whats wrong with it and giving us a clue because its hard for us to test in every browser. We'll gladly make the changes so long as they dont break IE.
NS users could help us with that too. Right now we are all very very busy with real life issues but we'll try too.

Cloud is submitting his thesis this week for his Doctorate and Spin are busy with running a company... come on lads, help us help you.

    DeV.

    Okay DeV (Hear me roar),

As has been said multiple times in this thread, and I think 3 times by me alone: the menus work in Opera.

Phaxx is the only one to report any errors, I mean download Opera yourself and see (its only 2 megs, I assume you dont use Jave for the menus [in fact I'm sure], so you dont need the java enabled one).

As far as I can see there is absolutely nothing wrong from an Opera perspective, in fact I'm on me way right now to check linux Opera and see how that works. And Konquerer. And Nutscrape (piece of shiit don't know why people use it anyway). And thats possibly all. Possibly.

Okay I have just checked for Konqueror version 2.2.1 on Mandrake 8.x and it works fine, however Konqueror in my college doesnt work, they are linux machines and I don~t know what version of KDE, but it could be just a case that the jscript is turned off, I forgot to check, but I can check that today

Opera 5 for Linux works okay also. Although I can't seem to get it to post, but dont worry about that.

Nutscrape 4.78 for linux, well as I said piece of shiit, so doesnt work, I'll have a gander.

Doesnt work on mozilla version 0.9.4 again I'll have a gander but I think once I get it going for Netscape it will work for Mozilla (They look monstrously similar).

well I have worked on this for a couple of hours now, and I am well and truly stumped .

On my website I have an older version of the menu system you use (I nicked it, sorry), and it works on every browser I could find except mozilla. Now there is precious little difference between my code and yours and what difference there was I removed (basically replaced your code with mine) and still no luck. And the only differences I could see was the use of css, but since I use css (not as much) that shouldn't be a problem.

In other words I dont have a fecking clue.

    Baz_ the clueless

Maybe when Cloud becomes..... " Dr. Cloud "
He can administer some assistance to our poor & unwell drop down menus:(
