The Sunday Business Post suggests a more "gloves off" approach to regulation with the likely appointment of Dr Philip Nolan in this article.
"Nolan was still seen to have taken on the regulator head-on in order to deliver return to investors," one source said. He said that Nolan would relish the challenge of running Eircom in a deregulated market.

"The gloves would be off a little bit more in the Eircom situation, and I think that would be an attractive part of the move for him. He would also enjoy the challenge of competing with British Telecom [which owns Esat]."
