How to tune in ITV ...

For newbies to this forum - I just thought this might be helpful if you're not used to adding additional channels.

There are three transponders currently broadcasting all the ITV channels.

At the moment the transponder frequencies and channels are -

    10832H:

    1:1 CARLTON / LWT
    1:2 CENTRAL WEST
    1:3 HTV WALES
    1:4 HTV WEST
    1:5 WESTCOUNTRY SOUTH

    10891H:

    2:1 ANGLIA
    2:2 BORDER ENGLAND
    2:3 BORDER SCOTLAND
    2:4 GRANADA
    2:5 MERIDIAN
    2:6 TYNE TEES
    2:7 YORKSHIRE

    10906V:

    3:1 GRAMPIAN
    3:2 SCOTTISH
    3:3 ULSTER
    3:4 CHANNEL

They're only testing at the moment, so they may not all be there at any one time. Sometimes you get frozen pictures etc. but that's all just part of the testing process.

ITV2 isn't testing on Sky Digital at this stage.

To add the ITV tests to your "Other Channels" option, do the following.

With your digibox turned on, press the "Services" button (near the top of the remote).

Select number 4, and then 4 again ("Add Channels").

In the appropriate fields enter the following (you move through the fields using the up and down arrow keys).

In the Frequency field enter: 10.832,

The next three fields are toggle fields, i.e. using the left and right arrows will change the value.

    Toggle Polarisation to : H
    Toggle Symbol Rate to: 22000
    Toggle FEC to : 5/6

Then select the last button (Search, I think).

After a few seconds the channels should appear (if they're testing at the time). Use the Yellow button to place a tick beside each one and press "Select". These channels will now be stored.

You can view them by pressing the "Services" button, then 6 ("Other Channels"), use the arrow keys to move to the channel you want and press "Select".

    Hey Presto !!

    The other frequencies are -

    Frequency: 10.891
    Polarisation: H
    Symbol Rate: 22000
    FEC: 5/6

    Frequency: 10.906
    Polarisation: V
    Symbol Rate: 22000
    FEC: 5/6

    Have fun,

    Charles.

Another channel newbies may be interested in tuning in while adding the ITV channels is Fox News (US News channel).

    The details are -

    Frequency: 11.508
    Polarisation: H
    Symbol Rate: 27500
    FEC: 2/3

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,817 ✭✭✭Charles Slane

... and one other frequency that's well worth storing is -

    Frequency: 11.798
    Polarisation: H
    Symbol Rate: 27500
    FEC: 2/3

Here you'll find all the BBC Radio stations below

    BBC Radio 1
    BBC Radio 2
    BBC Radio 3
    BBC Radio 4 FM
    BBC Radio 4 LW
    BBC Radio Scotland FM
    BBC Radio Wales FM
    BBC Radio Ulster FM
    BBC Asian Network

BBC Radio 5 Live is there too but it's encrypted for viewers (or listeners) in Ireland.

There are other test channels out there and new ones pop up all the time.

Keep an eye on this forum for news and frequencies.

Just a little update on this.

The test channels now have the correct channel names (ie. UTV, ITV Carlton etc.). However they may be encrypting soon (see other threads for the latest).

ITV2 is testing with colour bars and EPG info on 10906V, Symbol Rate: 22000, FEC: 5/6 using the channel name 3.5.

Will UTV eventually come to everyone's EPG in ROI automatically or do you have to tune it in has described by Charles ?

I mean if I didn't know to read those Boards how am I suppose to know UTV is available (only after tuning)!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,817 ✭✭✭Charles Slane

For the moment you'll have to tune it in manually as no deal has been struck with Sky for an EPG placement.

This looks likely to change, especially since RTE have now done a deal to begin broadcasting on Sky Digital in April - UTV are very aware of how much money they make from advertising to the Republic, and won't want to lose any of their share of the market here.

As MadMan speculated in another thread, UTV (and maybe even TV3)'s arrival on the EPG may coincide with RTE's arrival. It will certainly have a strong bearing on decisions made for UTV's availablity on Irish Sky Digital.

    Hi Lads,

Just thought I would add by saying that I rang SKY today and they told me that you MAY be able to tune in ITV right now, but come December it will be encrypted and blocked for all ROI customers.

So, I would tend to agree with C.S. with regard to direct competition with RTE and Ad Revenue, etc.

    James.

That's interesting - I have an FTA (or FtV) card whatever one it is that allows me to get Channel 4 & 5 in ROI. It was obtained through an address in East Anglia & ITV Anglia is on the EPG already.

Will this still be available if they encrypt ITV in December & does that mean nobody in ROI will get ITV back until UTV do a deal ??

    Hi there.
Nope,if ITV is encrypted and Irish Sky cards block it,you will still have it on 103 with your BBC Card.In your case when you put the card in, it makes Sky and your box think you are some where in the Anglia region :).

A new widescreen William Road test has appeared on 10.906V. No programming as yet, but there's speculation that it may turn out to be ITV Sport.

ITV and Sky are stilling saying that no deal has been made for the carriage of ITV Sport, but if you remember the days leading up to the launch of ITV1 (and days later ITV2), they were saying exactly the same thing.

If it is ITV Sport, the question is - will they make it available to viewers in the Republic ? (unlike ITV1 and 2)

If it's a subscription channel (which it's sure to be), they'll hardly be able to resist the temptation of all those Euros !!

    Hi

    I'm obviously doing something silly.

I tried to tune in UTV by going to services and then add channels.

I entered all the details and clicked on Find Channels.

UTV was one of the channels listed, I clicked the yellow button to select it. And then clicked select to finish.

when I go to view other channels, it just gives me an instruction on how to add new channels which I have lready done.

    What am I doing wrong?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,817 ✭✭✭Charles Slane

    Hi Senzate,

It doesn't sound as if you're doing anything wrong (or silly).

The "Add Channels" and "Other Channels" functions can do things of their own accord at times (particularly since the Personel PLanner update).

I assume that you didn't already have any channels stored in "Other Channels" when you tried to add UTV, because it sounds like it was your first time trying it (sometimes if you have over 35 channels stored, they all get wiped for some reason).

Did a little tick appear beside the channels when you pressed the yellow button ? Once that has happened, pressing "Select" should store them, and you can go straight into "Services", "Other Channels" and view what you've stored.

The only advice I can give really, is to try the process again. Maybe you accidently pressed a button with noticing.

Anyone else having problems storing the ITV channels ?

Rebooting your digibox should solve your problem;)

    There's a new test at

    Frequency: 11.798
    Polarisation: H
    Symbol Rate: 27500
    FEC: 2/3

which may be of interest to a lot of people on the forum when it starts broadcasting.

The label is NYR at the moment and it will be the new BBC radio station aimed at 24+ year olds. They plan to play music from the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and current stuff but more interestingly, quite a bit of it will be from the BBC's catalogue of live recordings.

There is also a new "urban" station due sometime in the New Year.

I assume these stations will not be available on our EPG, so it will once again be neccesary to get them through "Add Channels".

Well, no Astra 2d footprint where I am.

I horribly suspect RTE and TV3 eventually will end up on this nasty satellite.

Im well in central Europe and have BBC and all but no ITV and other channels on astra 2d. Anyone have an idea where rte will end up??? Then again who wants to watch more adverts. BBC1NI is enough for me.

    Anyone??

The BBC channels are all supposed to move to Astra 2D at some point - probably to coincide with the regional variations of BBC1 England being introduced. BBC1 NI, W and Scot are supposed to be made available to all UK dig sat viewers as BBC 2 is now - with just some sports events being blacked out. The radio channels are likely to be left on Astra 2A/C so they can be received in Europe. Bye bye BBC for u it seems.

Oh well. I have all the ITV channels added. ITV2 seems to be unavailable. Ive also managed to find the SKY News (Cable For ireland channel) which is pretty useless since I have the satelite feed for it! :)

And I have been told by a well informed friend that RTE & TG4 will be comin to SKY in April...........

no they re back no they re gone.... can anyone tell me why the itv channells come in and out of my other channels? not just them any "other channells" that I store??
I have to restore them every two days or so

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,092 ✭✭✭ShaneOC

Other people have had this problem too. I think it is a problem with the number of other channels that you store. If you are close to the limit, which is 50 channels, then they all sometimes get deleted.

Try adding just the ITV's that you watch and see if they stay in place for a bit longer.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 528 ✭✭✭Chucky

When I first got SKY Digital, why was ITV already programmed into my 'Other Channels'?? Can you explain that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,487 ✭✭✭Mountjoy Mugger

It was the same when I had a dish.

The reason being, afaik, was that ITV wasn't being broadcast on digital at the time, and you had to hit TV then 3 to tune in. This is the default channel number in the UK for the ITV regions on terrestrial TV.

Dunno if that makes any sense or not.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 122 ✭✭mocar

thanks shane OC. That seems to have worked so far...

    ill keep my fingers crossed.

well im even more confused with my wee problem!!! .....

i followed your instructions to install the utv and the like, i printed the instruction posted for the instalation.i followed them a number of times and they all go smoothly.. up untill you go to find the stations, they are nowhere, it told me they were stored, then it says to go to services then press 6 for other channels, but i get a message telling me to to set up to add new channels.. i have added then about 10 times now and still the same result.

I was told by a couple of ppl to empty the other channels, but it is empty, sounds like im not the only one have a wee difficulty storing these!!

any ideas anyone? thanks in advance

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,817 ✭✭✭Charles Slane

    Fi,

I've just noticed that someone else (Senzate) had a similar problem storing channels earlier in the thread, and they were advised by Irishbyte that rebooting the box would cure the problem. They didn't get back on to say if it worked, but it's worth a try.

So try unplugging the box from the mains for a couple of minutes. When you plug it back in, it will turn itself on and off. Then turn it on and it will say that it's searching for listings (this takes a minute or two). After that everything should be as normal and you can try the "Add Channels" process again. Hopefully it will work.

If it still doesn't work, another option is to try a "forced upgrade" which sometimes gets rid of bugs in the Sky software.

To do this, it is recommended that you first remove your Sky viewing card from the digibox.

Unplug your box from the mains (or sometimes it's just as easy to take the power cord out of the back of the digibox). Give it a minute or two, then press and hold the backup button on the front of the box and plug the box back in at the same time. Hold the button for about 10 secs and eventually a screen will come saying downloading software. This process can take a while (about 15 minutes), so don't get impatient. When it's gone through it's process, re-insert your viewing card. When everything's back to normal operation, try the "Add Channels" process (yet again).

Hopefully the first option will work.

Let us know how you get on.

Anyone else got any other ideas ??

Also theres the option of doing whats posted over in the fox thread as posted by Tombenjr:
"but if you get no signal try and turn off the 22KHz Command
because sometimes this cause the "no signal" on the "other channels"
options. to turn it off go to the "Installer Menu" by going to "service" press
4,0,1 and select button and go to LNB setup."
    Hope ths helps you.
