is there any way i could get it to play without a computer to set it off?

i know my other cdrom will play cds without an ide cable just the power supply.

    any ideas much appreciated.

I assume you want to try and mount the drive in a car or something..
Without a play button on the front forget about trying to use it without a PC; it's not worth the hassle.

Plus, if you do mount it in a car bear in mind that cd-rom drives have no antishock at all.

Try taking the front bezel off and seeing if there is a button mechanism behind it. Most drives tend to be generic brands with different bezels
