The churchs view on suicide

I heard that it is still church law that scuicide is a mortal sin i would think the church would be quite sensitive on this kind of thing as bassicaly they say "Ms.X im sorry youre husbands dead and that hes gone to hell" is this no the same institute that made up a dimension for unchristened babys that die.I didnt know whether to put this in humanitys or here but more people will see it here im just wondering what everyone elses stance is on the issue.

I presume you are talking about the Catholic church here.

Tell you the truth, I don't know what the Catholic take on this is.

I do know that the Catholic church in Ireland has buried those that have committed suicide without saying jack about mortal sin to the family.

If any priest has told the family of anyone that has committed suicide that their loved one has gone to hell then they are a scumbag IMHO.

Churches have a habbit of attracting the most un-Christian people in society so it wouldn't surprise me but there is no excuse for this if it is going on.

as far as i rember its still against the catholic churchs law .

No one knows if there is a heaven! That includes Catholic church and other religions, if there is great but if not tough $hit paddy, this is why the catholic religion should not be taking seriously because they change what they need to make it an easier place for them (The clergy that is)

How can they make up rules like, if you don't confess your sins you die and go to hell (Bol|ocks)

Nobody knows, not even the almightly Catholic church, so make your own decsions on wether there is a heaven or not.

One can always hope, it would be nice to go to a better place when it is the end of your life on earth.

And to the point of the thread, the church should be nice to the families of these people regardless what they think.

Yes, that's why nearly the people in the world buy into religion, I personally am afraid of dying and will freely admit, it's comforting for some people to know if they do what the church says they will go to heaven and maybe they will :rolleyes: who knows??

The verb used when describing a suicide is 'commit'
(i.e. this person commited suicide)

Suicide is still a mortal sin and always will be in the eyes of ALL Christian churchs and also suicide, until 1970-odd was an actual crime....hence, to COMMIT suicide....and had repurcussions on the immediate family..believe it or not!

As far as I'm aware, it's also simply against the law to (attempt) to commit suicide...

Possibly one of the dumbest laws ever.
