No Chorus Discussions Anymore

It must be a sign of the times that nobody has discussed Chorus on this forum for a long time. My guess is that any brassed-off subscribers have signed to Sky, and have no more reason to complain. Six months ago, we had dozens of inputs on this company every day.
    Serves 'em right.

A friend of mine is refusing to pay them until they improve the quality of their analogue MMDS service. He hasn't paid them in 6 months and they are not even competent enough to cut him off??? I wonder how long he will get away with it?

Unfortunately examples like this of incompetence and poor service are boosting Sky's audience. It is slightly unfair that Sky (and deflector companies) don't have to operate under the same operating and regulatory conditions as ntl and Chorus (e.g. they have to pay a 3.5% levy to the Gov on gross revenues).

It is possible that in a few years time that Ireland will only be served by a combination of Sky and illegal deflector companies (I say illegal because they effectively pirate UK content by not paying any broadcast rights - I wonder if the BBC, UTV & C4 are aware of the situation and if they plan to do anything about it?).

i am quite happy with my triple service from chorus...
    1. phone 2. tv 3. powernet

yes, i do wish they had as many channels as sky, but ill live with it for now anyway.

ive halved (at least!) my phone cable and internet bills by switching from eircon and my service is fine.

i think its a shame so many people will jump at giving their monies to a UK company, but thats the way the cookie crumbles. the same folk that preach that that is ok will buy their computer stuff not from my irish company but from anyone for 5 pounds sterling cheaper in the UK.

you pays your money you makes your choices.

I've probably exhausted myself elsewhere and on this forum giving out about Crapus.

It doesn't matter to me what country a service provider comes from, if it is sh*t then I won't use it and "patriotism" has nothing to do with it.

Chorus are getting the heave-ho from my house and I won't be sorry to see them go.

I agree with what you are saying and would add that there would be no complaints about Chorus if they could consistently deliver a triple play service to everyone living in their service area.

I er, refused that's it (not forgot at all!) to pay Chorus for 6 months and on the 7th they cut me off.

That's a fair point. If anyone is getting good digital service from Chorus then fair play and I'm glad for them.

Celbridge (where I spend Mondays to Fridays) has a legacy system, dating from when a local guy set up a system and for it to be upgraded would be a major job, of which I have seen no sign whatsoever. The local residents' association has been complaining for years about breakdowns to some effect, for example we went through the whole of the Christmas period with no breakdowns for the first time ever.

Personally I'm waiting for the RTE Digital service, though I'll be a long time waiting. I already have an outdoor aerial for Three Rock, and since I'll be assuming the bills for the house before the end of the year Chorus will get the snip then. I only really watch BBC and C4 at the weekend in Donegal which I get off air from Limavady up there and no hassle.

I would only subscribe to Sky if ITV/C4/C5 and BBC Choice, Knowledge and News 24 were part of the package, otherwise it would be a waste of money as far as I would be concerned. I'm not a bit squeamish about having a dish up, as I well remember the monster aerials we used in 405 days in Leixlip in the 1970's.

I have SD and an analogue box for the terrestials. Got home the other night and the Chorus box was making funny noises and could not get it to work. Rang them up and they say they can't book me in for TWO weeks, like what a farce. I cancelled right away and I am getting an aerial put in for 3 TV's this weekend that will giv eme RTE 1 , Network 2 , TV3 , TNG all perfect reception for £150. Goodbye to Chorus forever and £20 per month for complete trash. The only stations I don't have now are ITV + Ch 4 but they will be on SD soon anyway

I still subscribe to the service until the southcoast thing comes out. When i first got the service under cmc the picture quality was exellent compared to nowadays, no wonder ppl are refusing to pay so much for a crap mmds service.
I think it would be appropriate for some1 to set up a poll, i would set up one but i dont know how.
Maybe icdg could do one on chorus and ntl on what the subscribers rate their service.

I think we all know how chorus would rate in a poll...
Can't see south coast working myself-They would have to charge a rate that would pay professionals wages as well as maintain a technologically expensive system-not to mention instalation/repairs/callouts etc
Aerial/Sattelite/Cable based systems much better and more workable imo.

Has anyone recently seen Chorus' subscriber numbers? All recent reports refer to 240,000, which is the historic figure that was being quoted prior to SKY making real inroads. From seeing the MMDS aerials come down and dishes go up in the area I live in, and seeing similiar in places I travel to about the country, I'd really like to see what Chorus' numbers are, as I reckon that it is a fraction of the above. All my neighbours have gradually, as their annual renewal has arrived, cancelled their Chorus subscription. My immediate neingbour was told when he rang them (and no attempt to was made to pursuade him to stay) that he would have to put cancellation request in writing, and would still have to pay for a further 30 days-they really must be desparate for revenue. Also, the written notice is crazy in this day and age-you can arrange a loan, insurance, holidays etc by telephone, yet a supposed electronic media company insists on snail mail!!!
One wonders whether things will hot up for Chorus when lord muck gets his hands on eircom (another shower of c..ts expert at fleecing us for second rate "service").
