Sound probs

    Ola!

Ok last night I was playing a game of BF2 and during the course of the game the volume dropped. So I turn up speakers and the next minute the volume is back to its orginal level and I'm deafened. It sometimes fluctates qucikly between high and low. Other times it remains at a low level for an extended period, before becoming louder again.

I thought it was just a BF2 prob, but this morning I noticed the same prob with mp3s playing.

I have a Audigy 2 ZS card, with 5.1 speakers

I uninstalled the drivers and software. Uninstalled the card from device manager and restarted.

Reinstalled drivers from the CD that came with PC. Same prob. Downloaded latest drivers from creative website and installed. Same prob.

Anyone got any ideas what could cause this? Hardware? Software. Never had any probs until last night, haven't installed any nnew devices or software recently.

    Thanks.

Can anyone with an Audigy 2 ZS card installed check to see if its listed as "Creative Audigy Audio Processor (WDM)" under Sound, game and video controllers in Device Manager?

    Cheers.

Is it just while playing BF2 this happens, or is it sound in general?
If it's sound in general - I had a similar problem a few weeks ago.. Spent ages uninstalling/reinstalling sound card/driver - Eventually discovered it was my speakers (Creative Inspire 6700) that were causing the problem. A bad component in the amp caused them to pack it in.

Sorry, just re-read your post - It looks like this is happening all the time. What type of speakers have you got? Are you getting any static, pops, etc. from them? Is the same problem happenoing with headphones? With mine, moving the volume control (on the wired remote) caused the volume to go a bit erratic and there was lots of static. Any of that sound familiar?

it seems to be in general. I haven't been able to test much since my last effort in updating drivers. So can't be sure for certain. I orginally thought it was jsut BF2, but noticed same prob when playing mp3s later.

I think the speakers are working fine. How did u find out it was speakers and not the card?

sound was ok through headphones.. Initially I was getting a lot of static whn I moved the volume control (on the wired remote).. Then the volume started behaving very erratically (going down even though I was turning up, then getting really loud all of a sudden).. Did a bit of searching and found many people on the creative forums having the same problem with my speakers..

mmm headphones... good idea. did u connect headphones to socket on speaker on on the CPU case?

I've got the Audigy front panel, so connected them there - You should connect them directy to the pc, rather than to the speakers, that way, you're eliminating the amp from the problem...

ok no front panel with my card but i can connect to headphone socket on the front. I'll try this out later. thanks
