Newstalk are the first major commercial station in Ireland to offer Podcasting. This is certainly an exciting development, though the shows on offer could have been a little more imaginative.

    Whats available:

    - Off the Ball’s Football show Newsround
    - Henry McKean’s Kidstalk on Moncrieff
    - City Edition’s Hidden Dublin

    Link: http://www.newstalk106.ie/podcasting.html

What I'd like to see (or, ahem, hear):

    - Dunphy Digest (best of Dunphy's show - daily/ weekly)
    - The Best of George Hook (a show that is already broadcast)
    - Best of Moncrieff (a show that is already broadcast)
    - Media Matters (once-weekly show on Media)
    - The Arts & Entertainment Show (once-weekly local arts show)
    - At the end of the day (606-style phone in sports show, already broadcast)

Wrong. FM104 and 98FM have been doing them for a few weeks now.

The other shows are too long to podcast.

I'm intrigued. What is the guideline length for a podcast? Is two hours too long? An hour?

Most podcasts I subscribe to are close to one hour in length.

Thanks for the info on FM104 and 98FM. It took me a long time to find the actual link on the FM104 site to the one podcast they offer - and even then it appears to be for iPods / iTunes users only. I cannot find any link to 98FM podcasting, but would be interested in one if you have it.

that's why he specified the "best of" ones. they're on at night. can't listen to moncrief anymore because of college, and the repeat (sans ads and news) is on at 5am ish so a podcast would be great

I think it is trying to find a manageable file size ... the longer the programme the bigger the file. I suspect they try and get a balance so those with out broadband don't spend half a day downloading it. 98 and 104 appear to go through the podcast service on iTunes. Apparently, FM104's strawberry bits got to number one in the Irish podcast "chart" on iTunes.

Phantom FM is looking for Irish bands who are willing to submit 'podsafe' musid for future podcasts. More info http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=317487

NEAR fm 101.6 was the first Irish radio station to use podcasting.

We've been doing it since early July, long before the commercial radio stations started.
