Any chance to could post a pic of your desktop* to get a better image of the situation? Not quite understanding what you mean!

    * - use 'Print Screen' in the top-right and paste in PaintBrush.

Might be your gfx card is busted
Get a screenshot and we can see what the problem is!

Look in the top-right of your keyboard for a 'Print Screen' button.

Open MSPaint and press Ctrl and V together.

Save it to your computer somewhere and upload it here and post the resulting web address here.

You could try clicking on the desktop like you would on a window that you want to work on to select it. Then press F5 which will refresh the desktop. If that fails try logging out and then back in again, if that fails restart your PC, if the problem is still there, then I would be out of options for the moment.

I would suggest that you stop using Internet Explorer for browsing the Internet as it is full of flaws, sometimes closing windows on IE gave me the exact same problem. Go to opera.com (to get Opera) or go to getfirefox.com (to get firefox) and try them both, stick with the one that you like best, they are both free of the problems that IE has, and you never know, it may solve your problem.
