    Hi All,
Anyone know what satellite they are getting the broad-band from in the Primary schools around the country.

    Cheers.

And 1 or 2 channel ISDN configured as "internet only" as is done in germany is superior. The latency on Satellite is terrible (100,000 mile round trip for a ping!)

I have measured ISDN and one 64K channel is like twice the performace of 40K analog as it is error free. Two channel is thus 4 times performance of 40K dialup or 8 to 10 times performance of poor analog. This is full duplex symetrical, upload and download at full speed at same time.

Often in the past ISDN had 1:1 contention! c.f. cheapest aDSL at 48:1 !

The Gov broadband policy for schools is a disaster and what are they supposed to do educationally with it when they have it.

I think less than 25% are able to get copper wire aDSL!

Nearly 40% have to have Satellite as even Wireless Broadband provision in Irleand is pathetic!

Slightly OT. Is it true that houses in the locality can hook up to this? My brother-in-law lives across the road from a countryside school and heard it might happen.

I'd have thought unlikely as the system is hardly good enough for the Schools.

Oh indeed, many Group Broadband Scheme's do use Satellite link (more specifically Ildana use them), and distribute it via Fixed Wireless Access. I can only dread to think what the ping times are like!
