SKY+ and SKY False Advertising Fraud

Anybody who orders SKY+ in the near future because they hear it 'has' UTV has a get out from the contract if they wish. Just keep an eye on the Advestising Standard site here .

The ads on the radio mention SKY+ now with UTV as if you could use SKY+ for UTV. You may not as UTV is an 'other channel' and not in the EPG
Therefore you cannot use the main feature of SKY+ , its recorder, to record UTV .

If they were selling bog standard SKY(no plus) it could be argued that as the Programme Guide does not work then the normal SKY box, with an Irish sub cannot be used 'properly' for UTV either because you have no idea what programmes are coming up.

Basically SKY comes 'with UTV' in the sense that Rain comes with Gravy !!!!

It is correct to advertise that a Crippled version of UTV with no Recording or Programme Guide may be available if you know how to manually add a transponder and search thru it and add it to other channels but if the Installer is not adding this as standard then SKY are not really providing it as such.

Likewise, I assume Chorus could also be in trouble for their ad that says we have channel 4 and ITv which are not available on sat.?

RTE advertises it's sport as free to air.

Not in my house. I pay a license and a sky sub.

well ITV definitely, ch 4 is not legitimately available on satellite.

Not true, I took Cablelink to task many years ago and won my case, the offending advertisement was removed.

well to keep it short they had a press adverisment running which basically said that a Football game was "live and exclusive" only on Cablelink, I objected as the game was on Sky Sports on satellite too. The objection was upheld and cablelink were censured and ordered not to run that or similarly phrased adverts again.
