Wondering if many people are considering this tonight. Can anyone tell me where exactly it is? There doesn't seem to be a website for it. Any suggestions for parking?

    Parking???????

Thursday late night shopping in town

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,832 ✭✭✭careca

you could always park in Ranelagh and get the Luas in/out. Most of us should have no problems being in time for the last one :) And if you do win you won't mind paying for a taxi.

Anyway its only for the short term. The new metro will sort all that :)

Cant make it in this week but I plan on playing a couple of there tournament's next week.As for the parking if you are stuck and cannot find a space park on Merrion Square, its not that far away. The walk and fresh air will not kill you.

    Cheers Dub,
Where exactly is the casino? Near Grafton street is the best I can do at the moment:confused:

Its just of Ann's street up a little lane,if you don't know Ann's street its one of the streets that runs between Dawson Street and Grafton Street. If you walk up Dawson Street on till you hit the church then head towards Grafton Street you should now be on Ann's street....take your first left and you will see the casino.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,477 ✭✭✭azzeretti

    50+5 I believe.
Thanks for the directions, I'm sure I'll find it!

so can u go in at 6pm to become a member? and play tonight?
apoligies if its a silly question ive never been to a casino but its time i take the plunge.
buy-in tonight is cheap enough to do so and ill be the fish sitting in the corner :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,477 ✭✭✭azzeretti

Well, I have never been to this one but I'd imagine it will be the same as the rest. I think here you need to pay €10 for membership. I would advise you to bring some sort of offical photo id aswell i.e passport or drivers licence. I am not too sure if the double chance tonight is like the Fitz double chance or Fintan's definition of double chance. If its the latter it will mean you have to pay another 50 for the rest of your chips. If, however, its like the fitz, you will only pay 50 once.

double chance you pay once, otherwise its called a 'rebuy'.

I went last night to play the 75+5 double chance, very swanky.

Yeah, that is the general concenus, but there was some uproar here last year when Pokerevents announced their format as Double Chance. It turns out that the strict definition, according to Fintan at the time, is one rebuy only. Not like the Fitz etc.
    There was some anger then:D

I don't think they call there tourney double chance anymore anyway,.

Yep, double chance is normal proper double chance.

One buy in, free top up available any time after the first hand.

They seemed to be pretty strict on having drivers license or passport for joining up. Or rather it was the first things we were asked for at the door but we did have them so didn't have to question it.

    Very swanky setup.

I expect it would be a bit quiet at 6pm though... only managed to fill three tables by 9:00 last night with only the odd one or two others wandering about looking at the gaming tables.

Im sure the local casino will be delighted your availing of their customers parking!

    double chancer :)

what time does it kick off fellas? think ill pop along tonight.

I'm only going by starting times in a post posted last week. In it, it was stated the Double Chance starts at 8pm. I be surprised if it was on time though!

I know it's a 'Catch 22' for a while but with the SE's welcome bias to Freezeouts and Double Chances, there is a 'value' deficit unless they get 50+ runners.

They should do like the Mayfair did, and add to the fund for the first while, until sufficient numbers are playing to make the prize pool attractive.

If you are paying €50 out, and you have 20 runners = €1000, say top 4 are paid along the lines of 400/250/150/100, you are being paid 8/1 for the win.

At least if they were €25 re-buys then the pool is inflated somewhat 50%from the same player base. (based on avearge 1RB+Top Up which I think is the norm).

    Catch 22 I know !

Turn up at 8.45pm and id say you wont be waiting too long before the off. It didnt start until after 9pm last nite, in fairness they were waiting for numbers to build. In time they intend to keep a strict policy on starting times but for now its anything but. Remember to bring your passport or driving licence and fake fingerprints.

I agree Culchie the prize pools aren't huge but I thinks it'll be a matter of a week or two and they'll have 50+. Serious competitor/challenge to the other casinos. And that's just based on the poker setup not to mention the quality of the eye-candy and the food and drinks etc.:D

You could always play the 75 double chance or the 150 if you wanted a bigger prize pool and with the smaller numbers you could argue that the tournie volatility would in theory be reduced - for an above average player that is :o .

Ante's Up will hopefully plug their schedule into their tournament page.

Plenty of boardsters there tonight it seems, so hopefully one of you will be posting a nice long tournament report after arriving home no earlier than 3am;)

in tonight and yesterday went out early yesterday and finished 2nd tonight. when player x went all in, i called with K9o he had 45 and hit a 5 on the river. he had 1000 more chips than me, probably serves me right i refused to do any deals.

The place is fantastic great layout, i'd move in if it was socially acceptable to live in a casino.
one little con is the dealers are quite inexpereinced and make a few mistakes but they'll improve quickly with practice.

    30 or so

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 21,254 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dub13

are all the levels 30min or just the first few...?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 441 ✭✭De Deraco

i think only the first 3 were 30 mins long, after that it was 20 mins.
they skipped the 150-300 level which created alot of shortstacks quickly, went from 100-200 to 200-400 20 mins after the break.
    there were 33 runners

I don't think any of the levels were 30 mins, i couldn't see a clock anywhere, it felt more like 15/20
