Down to three on the last table of a $175 double shootout. 1st prize is a $13k package to the WPT in the Carribbean this January, second is a measly $220. I have 3200 in chips, chip leader has 9000 and shortstack has about 1300. With blinds at 150 300 I make it 750 with AQ on the button, and chip leader moves all in on the small blind. He's done this already on me with KQ, A10 and KJ. I've seen him play one premium hand and he was the original raiser so I didn't get to find out if he makes these plays with premiums also. I don't care about 2nd place, I just want first, but I reckon if I get headsup I can offer him a deal, say making 2nd place $1250 and playing for the ticket. I'd prefer the ticket but to be honest I'd be pretty pleased with $1250 too. I reckon he'll make this deal regardless of the stacks headsup. The short stack folds and I'm left with a decision. Call or fold?

    I'm all-in every time there!

In that scenario, I only play for 1st ... 2nd is effectively money back and I don't know for sure that chip leader will do any kind of deal, so having put 750 in pot already and especially knowing CL will push without premium, it's a no-brainer for me...

The only thing is that AQ is a killer hand IMHO ,it can get you into soooooooooo much trouble and is seriously weaker than AK.

Why such a tiny preflop raise? I think I'd consider just going all in preflop there and hope the shorty will come with me. The big stack is unlikely to fold and can push you off the flop since you'll miss it most of the time. I don't think you should raise with less than 11BBs if you're considering folding to a reraise from a player with a the range you mentioned.

The raise is close enough to my standard preflop with antes at that level. I like to get action off my hands/ like to make it look like I want action off my hands, and normally I reckon I can outplay people post flop, so I don't mind a call. Maybe here I should have made it a little bigger, I don't know.

I called anyway and he had KJ, KJ on the flop and no miracle ten meant I'm more than likely stuck in Dublin this January.:( I just wasn't sure if I should wait for a better spot than AQ. I mean if I know he's going to jam all his chips in trying to bully me than maybe I should wait until I have a made hand. I don't know.

I think he knew you KP, his name was ElRupert? Also that bloke from Birmingham who was out with us the other night was on the final table, Collins something or something Collins.

I think you have to call here given the, if his range includes KJ it also includes AJ AT and so on.

The only thing wrong was the result. You can not fold. If he has a pair you have overcards (unless he was freakishly lucky). If he does not have a pair you have overcards (AK to him you got a major bad beat story). On balance you are slightly behind or well ahead.
You did the right thing. He got lucky.
