Damon Lindelof comments on my favourite new show of the season.. and the most promising show i've seen since 'Lost'.

Don't know if i agree with him and "the elements of the weird" comment but nice to see 'Prison Break' getting some well deserved press coverage.
Damon Lindelof, the co-creator of Lost, has reportedly said that, of the fall crop of Lost-influenced programs, the show most like Lost is -- wait for it -- Prison Break.

Yep, that's right. Prison Break. Not Threshold, Invasion, Surface, Night Stalker or any one of half-a-dozen other supernatural-themed programs.

Whereas those other series are "straight-up sci-fi," Lindelof recently told Inside TV, Prison Break is a serialized character drama "with elements of the weird."

    Taken from here!

I've been hearing good things about Prison Break... not sure if I should give the cousins a call or wait until it's on over here...

my cousin's been sending me every episode of prison break. took a while to really get going, but its quite good now. trashy, really, though. the episode 6/7 two parter was excellent.

Really enjoying "Prison Break" for popcorn TV - it's far more fun than "Lost" Season 2 has been, which seems to be getting quite mired down.

However, I can't really see how PB drew inspiration from "Lost"! Maybe DL's just jealous that he's no longer the new fan-frenzied show on the block and is trying to claim unwarranted credit...

Any idea if/when this'll be shown on Irish TV?

That's a fair point and an important distinction. There are very few "fun" shows on TV any more. Everything goes for gritty realism and "hardhitting" semi-factual storylines.

I'm not saying Lost is gritty or anything but aside from some funny lines it's a far cry from the fast paced storyline of Prison Break.

It's good to see a program not take itself too seriously.
    Sorry if I'm off topic.

Prison Break Doesn't steal anything from Lost except that it's character based. It's full of excentric characters that even though they are evil they are still intriguing.

You have the brothers-Michael Schofield and Lincoln Burrows
One is in jail because people think he murdered the brother of the Vice President. The other is there because his brother raised him and it's up to him to free him

    there is Fernando Sucre
one of the two people isn't completely evil besides the brothers. all he wants is to get out to his hot spanish flame

    Charles Westmoreland
may or may not be an infamous criminal daredevil who parashuted out of a plane with a **** load of money the death of his cat spurs him into action to help those planning to escape

    John Abruzzi
the prison god father a high ranking member of the italian mob. but not one high enough that his family can't be threatened

    and finally T-Bag
the name says it all. this guy is scum. the inbread son of hiljack siblings when they say don't drop the soap in prison, he's the reason why. but he knows about the escape plan so he's part of the group

and that's just the inmates. There are still the prison staff and those working against and for the brothers on the outside. This show is a little farfetched in the plot department. possibly more so than lost, so if it wasn't for the characters the show might possibly be un watchable

Firstly.. what was the point of explaining the characters in Prison Break one by one? Nothing to do with the topic currently being discussed.

And also have to strongly disagree. 'Prison Break' has some excellent characters but it's the constant twists and turns, thrilling cliffhangers and extremely tense and nerve-wracking scenes that make it one of the best shows since 'Lost'. And never thought i'd say this... but is quickly overtaking 'Lost' as my favourite show right now. I still love 'Lost' but it's probably just the fact that it's very slow right now!

I just finished watching some eps that my cousin sent over. Enjoying it so far, some bits are absolutely great, but I hate the Secret Service characters. Everything about them just stinks of...well, crapness :(

Well.. it's Damon Lindelof commenting on how he thinks 'Prison Break' was somewhat influenced by 'Lost' so it's still verging on a 'Lost' thread.

Though now that you mention it... the thread is quickly descending into a 'Prison Break' thread.

Although you can't really compare the two, I think Lost is better.
As someone said, the agents are crap.
    So stereotypical.

Oz is a much better prison drama. You become attatched to certain characters in Oz and I just don't feel it in PB. PB is also very predictible.
L.J leaving the phone on the wrong bus and the agents tracking the phone, not him... so obvious.

hope i did those spoiler tags right

yeah, the most cliched devices are used to ramp up the tension. (car park chase scene where the guy rolls under the car and then we follow the baddies eyes and when he looks hes gone!) although, i enjoy it still. its all very tongue in cheek. wnetworth milers stary eyes at thge cliffhanger every US ad-break to ramp up the tension and again at the cliffhanger at the end of the eps.

reminds me of the editing experiment that was once done. that had this guy doing stary eyes at the camera and then cut it with a scene of a little girl, a plate of food and something else. anyway audiences praised how lovingly he looked at the girl, how hungrily he looked at the food etc although it was all the same bit. miller never changes his expression.
