Anyone know of a program that will play cds without using the soundcard ?
    I'm using redhat 5.1.

    Cheers.

    fairly obscure reasons actually.
it goes back to when I had a solaris box without a sound card and I couldn't get a cd player which would work without one - so I had to write one.
Then I wanted to see if Linux had something similar - without having to write a new cd player (and I lost the source for my own).
    cdp works just fine.

Hmm, dunno about the s/w, but you can buy CD drives with a play button on the front (if you don't already have one), and it bypasses the OS completely.
