Problem With Windows 98

    Hi

I am trying to reinstall Windows 98 on a machine that was upgraded to XP when it was serviced.

    The Spec is:
    Pentium II 450 mhz
    8 GB
    128 MB RAM

As you can tell its not powerful enough to run XP. When I tried to boot the computer with the Win 98 cd it went to a blue screen saying formatting c: then came an error message saying cant read d: put cd in and try again but the cd drive is the e: not d: so I went back to dos and went to e: and entered setup. It then told me that it needed 7.4 GB in the c: but when I checked in my computer c: properties it had 7.7 GB free. Someone mentioned that the file system might have been upgraded to NFTS and to delete the partition using a fdisk on the Win 98 cd. This Procedure I'm not to sure about.
If anyone has any more info on this or any other ideas on what the problem might be could you let me know.

    Cheers

It sounds like you need fdisk. You should have it on the windows 98 floppy
this will let you delete and create partions just delete all that are there and recreate 1 and bobs your uncle.

PS this will delete everything off the computer

Do a google on "debug" print it out when you find it, this is a command script that will wipe the NTFS filing system then you will be able to re-format back to fat32....All done in Dos btw.

follow the command script by the letter. Then run fdisk on the windows startup disk.

download the hard drives manufacturers formatting utility. They all have them.

If you cant find yours let us know the make.SEAGATE=SEATOOLS,ETC.

    THIS IS SIMPLE TO DO.

Just get a decent bootdisk off bootdisk.com and use that to wipe the NTFS partitions, and make a new partition... Then format that as fat32.
