Stewmac don't ship a lot of it here for safety reasons etc..

Also, would it be best to go for lacquer for a natural finish, or french polish? I know french polish doesn't last as long what with sweat etc, but i know it's easily restored..

    any suggestions?

    *edit* and sanding sealer:)

I could throw a couple of bottles in my mouth, jump in and swim across the Atlantic to the Emerald Isle.....but you better be prepared to pay big when I get there! :)

No 'we make our own furniture' stores near you that might be able to help?

Reranch stock everything you'll ever need, dunno about shipping the stuff here though. But at least you can get some info on what's usable and what's not :p

Im pretty sure you can get the stuff shipped freight, it does take a few weeks to get here, anything up to 3 months. worth an email I think.

You can get general purpose lacquer in halfords for €8 a can, for that price you can try it out on a test piece of wood first and see if you like the finish..

Just do it in a well ventilated place as that stuff is lethal..

Also try Lenehans on Caple street for Sanding sealer they are pretty good.
It depends on what kind of wood you are using some don't need sanding sealer.
Mainly the hard woods like Maple should be alright without it.

    Lenehans website UK based..

If you find something on the website that you need they can order it for you in the dublin shop.. I am pretty sure they can get most supplies if you ask.

    Cheers

Yeah, Stewart McDonald have everyting you need, just don't take the DHL shipping option, they charge you import duty for everything, even cheap stuff which should come in under the radar :(

Actually I think I noticed yesterday that Stewmac won't ship colors/lacquers out of the continental US....unless maybe they have a 'stewmac.uk' or something.....

Maybe it's time to go into business, Rustar.
How would you like to be our US based GAS stimulator, dealer and distributor all in one? :p

Lacquer? Go into woodies and look for a lacquer that says "polyurethane" ;)

Funny you should say that.....Mr. Quimby has inspired me to start working on building a bass, although I want to do it from the ground up. Picked up a book by Waring & Raymond, "Make Your Own Electric Guitar & Bass", and I'm researching materials, parts, etc. on the web.
Looking to make a high-quality Alembic/Pedullah type of bass...maybe I can become the Guitar Maker of the Irish Stars!

Also going to experiment with mass production when I start....going to make 2 or three 'plywood' type guitars at the same time.
