im not overweight as such I just have a major addication to junk...crisps , chocolate you name it. I crave the good stuff as well- pasta, green tea (am addicted to that) etc.
I was doign well there for a while cos I love fruit so I was scoffing loads but was off work for a week there and am back in work today. I think teh reason I havent gained weight is because I do so much excercise but Id rather not be eating so much crap. Im fine except for in work im at a desk and I eat out of boredom. Im basically stuck to a head set 9-5 and thers a vending machine so I go for the crisps and chocolate. When im active and busy this doesnt happen. Anyone else have the same problem? any tips?

You Could always take up smoking (joke :D ). No really eat peanuts. Not the salty one’s. There is a vast array of peanuts out there some aren’t really peanuts like dried banana but there very tasty and will take away your craving + drinking loads of water. And also decaffeinated tea is good. Green tea is better. I worked in an office so i know where u stand, those damn snacks.

Thanks a mil. I love the green tea so im hoping that is helping clearing out my system! are penuts good fo ryou? mt mate said they are really fattening and that turned me off them but i guess they are better than crisps. I used to try eating dry cereal but I went through a whole box in a day so I had to stop- i thik I eat without thinking!!

dont go off the schweeties that fast though :) you'll go mad. peanuts are very good for you as far as i know as long as they arent drenched in salt or chocolate. Ease yourself off the sweets is the method ive found easiest. best of luck :D Im a big tea drinker also.

Ye I wouldnt go eating loads of peanuts. Especially if there salted or dry roasted..would'nt be helping the cause...!
What I do is get some Brazil nuts , Pumpkin Seeds and Sunflower seeds in the nature store/tescos.
Put the pumpkin/sunflower seeds onto a tray and toast them lightly under a grill, chop up the brazil nuts and add them to the tray, lightly brown them and then let them cool then bag them or put them in a lunch box, Damn nice and very handy for a wee snack.

Sounds crazy but dry pasta. Suck it when you're bored it goes soft and it just takes your mind off chocolate and crap (IMO!!!) What about popcorn?? It's yummy and v low fat. If you need a sugar fix opt for toffee popcorn, orgasmic and not as high fat as crisps etc but kinda moreish....

Ok, here's a wild suggestion... just stop eating junk and don't replace it...

you don't NEED to eat all day, you're just giving in to cravings. The ehalthiest way to eat is small meals 5-6 times a day. So let yourself eat a healthy snack every 2-2.5 hours and that way you won't feel like you're depriving yourself. Constant snacking is only going to disrupt you digestive processes, your tummy needs a break to work efficently.

But if you really do need to snack try seeds and unsalted, unroasted nuts. Cashews and almonds are best. Carrot and celery sticks. Fruit esp grapes, which you can pick at. Keep a big 2L bottle of water at your desk and drink that. It'll make you feel full and the health benefits are far too many to write here ;)

Yeah nuts are really good as they are a good source of protein, fats (the good ones), vit E, selenium, magnesium. They’re filling and slow to digest so a small few should keep you going in between meals.

Walnuts have high omega 3 content.
Brazil nuts have high selenium content.
    Peanuts have high manganese content.
Almonds have high vit E content.

Don’t worry about the fat content in nuts the body can break down and utilize this type of fat. Its not like the hydrogenated and trans fats in confectionary.

im tryin to go off the junk myself, get munched every wednesday, fri, sat,and sunday nite, its terrible !!! i try to burn it off during the wk as much as possible.

Then i discovered tic tacs !!!!! great, they keep the cravings at bay !!! and only about 60cals per pack

I find raw carrots, washed and chopped into long strips are great to munch on during the day! I being them to work in a small plastic container and keep me from snacking on biscuits and crisps!
I myself work a 9-5 office job and sit most of the day!

change habits. psy approach works best in these cases

    important examples:

whats lying around the house: shopping - skipp the junk aisles etc

boyfriend/husband/girlfriend/friends/fam most important point: they need to be on the same wavelength/supportive - hang out with healthy people and they will rub off on you.

make exercise a habit too. it will make wt loss easy. especially from trunk.

I've never tried green tea, what's it taste like? I love normal tea but would like to try green tea.

its a bit like herbal tea. plain green tea doesn't taste of much, but you can get it with apple/ orange/ various other infusions and they taste mildy of those things. Its said to speed up your metabolism and is loaded with antioxidants (good stuff!!) and is a good way to up your water intake. Virtually calorie free too.

:D yeah, its definitely an acquired taste!! At first I missed the milky taste of noraml tea, but after drinking green tea for a while it becomes really refreshing and much lighter than normal tea. I'd easily get through 4 or five cups of the stuff a day now. Dunno if its doing a everything its says on the tin, but its defintiely not doing any harm

yeah the green tea is a bit like Guiness and red wine for me, first one or two are a bit suspect, but after that can't get enough of it. But only when there's no training the next day :D

Gotta agree with the green tea, very refreshing.
First tried it while working at a Chinese guys house on a stinking warm day in Oz, when his granmother came out with a pot of chilled Green tea..hit the spot.:D

Yup, it's an acquired taste. It's very refreshing once you get used to it. Don't leave the teabag in too long if you've a bitter blend (like Bewley's). My favourite at the moment is Clipper Gold green tea, which has a very mild flavour. You can get it in health stores and it's in a dark green box. Use water that's about 80 degrees to make it with.

When I'm at work I try to bring some pick & mix cheeses (edam and gouda are my favourites). I also bring some Green&blacks chocolate for when I must have something sweet (it's nowhere near as bad as the vending machine chocolate, and the orange&spices version is yum)
