New York in the New Year

    Myself and my boyfriend are planning to go to New York in January. I know loads of people go this time of year, so does anyone know whether that makes a trip cheaper or more expensive. I know Aer Lingus do good seat sales for the New Year, but I've been told that they can be hard to get.

    and what about accommodation? Will Hotels jack up prices or do good deals to get the shoppers in? We wouldn't want anything very flash, but it's our first trip, and it won't be for all that long considering how big the city is so we'd like somewhere in a fairly good location.

    I'd really appreciate any advise from people who've been before.
