How frequently do most of them fight a year?

After 6 months of experience in Muay Thai, after that how much fights would u expect to be having?

    XXXXX

depends on who they are some might try to fight every 3-4 weeks, if they stay injury free and the money is good they will take em

others might fight twice a year, it depends on who your trainer is, if the gym has a good reputation, if your fighters put on good shows etc etc

the calibre of fighters has gone down since i stopped fighting :)

no seriously if you look at eoghan murphy, small red haried fella 55kgs, hes always training for fights as are a few others in the gym

theres a list in the gym of what fight nights are coming up and what fighters are on it so that should give you a better idea of how busy some fighters are

    Hi There xxxx.

The average for a good fighter would be 8 to 10 fights a year which would give a six week interval. More experienced fighters would try to fight more often for two reasons. 1. to keep sharp and 2. because they can due to the fact they will fight more relaxed and so less likely to get bad injuries but also learn to fight with slight injuries which may put off a less experienced fighter.

The trouble with fighting Muay Thai in Ireland is the difficulty in finding suitable opponants in both weight and experience when it comes to novice fighters as there are less than a dozen pure Thaiboxing gyms in the country and so therefore as novices dont normally get taken abroad to fight due to lack of experience they have to rely on home bouts to build up their fight record so as to get on the international circuit. So in Ireland the probale fight frequency is for a novice is more likely 3 to 5 a year.

But hopefully this will improve to allow more frequent fights for novice fighters as this year Bridgestone are having 2 fightnights this year which is working out about 1 fightnight per month around the country which is an improvement. Armageddon 5 on November 12th will include no less than 10 Bridgestone fighters aginst International and National competition.

Also Mike Dockerys Warriors Gym in Loughlins town recently started fielding fresh fighters from Dublin area this year and so another couple of Fighting Gyms as opposed to training gyms in Dublin would really improve availability of fights and the frequency at which fighters would fight at.

    Regards,
    Bridgestone Man.

silly question. I am hoping to start Thaiboxing training within the next few weeks at Sean Dillon's [Classes on Mondays and wednesdays] how long would it take me before I am able to fight [amateur/pro] {have trained in Karate and Thaiboxing before}plus I'm going to be 30 in January will competing be a worthwhile endeavour?

Sean Dillon's [Classes on Mondays and wednesdays]
not to answer your question but to ask another:

    where is this gym?

(what do thai's call gyms? japanese call them dojos etc.)

I don't think age should be a factor provided you're cardio is good, nothing worsed than fighting fit young lads eh Paddy:D As regards when Sean will tell ya when yer ready.

Sean Dillon's camp is in Bagnalstown (Muine Beag) Co Carlow
Although the spelling can differ depending on where you are in Thailand, but Sith would normally be used for Camp eg Sith Bridgestone would be Bridgestone Camp.

    Hey Dave,

You accusing me of going over to the Dark Side, I know we have a few Darth Vaders and a couple of Darth Molls in the gym but there is no need to be rude. Or are you just thinking of those Black Russian (liquid varieties) abuses :p in the early 80's down at the summer siths in Tralee.

    Cheers,
    PK.

Hey Paul you must have been worse than me seeing as we were in Cahirciveen, not Tralee. Ahhh those were the days... I mean you know I've never drank a Black Russian or anything of the sort EVER!!

Would many Thai Boxers in Ireland take part in Kickboxing rules rights..leg kick and no leg kick?

or do they prefer to stick to Thai rules.
