Infrastructure vs Ad-hoc? Noob wifi question...

    Hi,
I've got ntl broadband (dynamic ip) connected to a linksys wireless router and two pc's (one laptop and one desktop). Both computers have wireless cards and I have no problems with internet etc...neither machine has a wired connection to the router...

What I want to know is whether I can have both a wireless peer to peer network between the two machines as well as a wireless connection to the router? The wireless cards seem to either do one (ad-hoc) or the other (infrastructure), or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

    any suggestions would be appreciated

Infastructure is usually better for sharing an internet connection

you can have one or the other, not both. But if u have an infrastruture set up with router there's no need to have ad hoc. anything u can do in adhoc u can do in infrastruture thru router

Cheers for the info...but more specifically, can anyone answer this question from my original post:
