Ok since most of the people here are from Dublin and that area, I thought Id start a thread about plans for Cork.

Anyone know whats happening transport wise there soon?

    Things I know about -

Flyovers for all 3 roundabouts on the Southring.
Traffic lights for the roundabout at the Tunnel.
Eventual opening of the Midleton rail line. (Long overdue, stop pissing about Iaranrod its not that hard to do)

Anything else any of you know about? :)

-construction of new north ring (2009)

    -construction of N28 dual carriageway

    -fermoy N8 bypass(2007)

    -Fermoy-mitchelstown N8 dual carriageway

-upgrading of mallow commuter line(new stations more trains)

    -aforementioned midleton rail re-opening

all in NDP bar the rail lines, all not due for completion 'til the end of the decade.or thereabouts.

I think Midleton is covered by existing capital funding and may not be part of the Ten Year Plan for that reason.

Yes. There is also the N22 dual carraigeway from Ovens to Macroom.

No plans to build any more dualers on the N25, apart from the Waterford BP, which is a shame. (However I think there may be talk of extending the end of the N11 dual carraigeway south of Gorey down to Rosslare.)

What would also be nice is changing Watergrasshill BP from N8 to M8. I don't even think it would require any physical changes.

no doubt the N28 dualing is to provide for the new non-rail-connected port at Ringaskiddy...

I hope they plan to supply more buses to Bus Eireann in Cork. Cork's bus service is way behind Dublin, many of Corks transport problems could be easily fixed with a better bus service.

The park and ride servcie has been a big success.

Also I believe then new green routes (busses control traffic lights) have been a success and for the first time in years, the busses are actually on schedule!!!

However more routes need to be made green routes and also Cork needs more buses so that they can have a more frequent service. Waiting 45 minutes for a bus is ridiculous. They should be minimum 15 minutes, 10 minutes on the busier routes.

Also the buses need to stop idealing in the City Centre, it is ridiculous that buses often wait 15 minutes before leaving, it should be pick up and leave like in Dublin. Of course you need a more frequent bus service to do this.

the midleton line is according to press reports part of the plan but we'll find out on tuesday.

the N28 DC to carrigaline and ringaskiddy is long overdue, and who knows id imagine the old crosshaven rail line as far as ringaskiddy thru carrigaline/rochesrown/passage west and into the city thru douglas mahon may be a goer in years to come.

i'd echo what was said about the city bus services,in the bus station you'll see a nice map of the cities bus routes which gives the impression that the city is well covered, until of course you realise many of these routes are paper routes with very limited service(once to and from Patrick st. each day for example)

The Midleton line already has the go-ahead, but it has to wait for a second go-ahead in order to derive double political points. Politicians never announce good news just once

    invincible

probably hard to do given the Passage West alignment has been designated a pedestrian route and has been cut through by the South Ring.
