Has anybody used EyeTV on a Mac in Ireland? I was wondering if it works and if so, what channels does it pick up.

have used the eye tv 200.. it is quite good, let down a bit by the software but i am told that it is much improved now... if you get rte off an aerial it will pick them all up an dif you have sky it will pick it up also.

    Hi there,

I'm using an older EyeTV USB for all my TV needs at present and with tvtv.co.uk (small annual fee)I program the system to record when I'm not there. I receive signal through NTL cable and can tune all the channels available to me. I am still using software version 1.3.1 as the newer 1.8.. software has not worked for me.

I was looking at EyeTV some time ago, for example I live in Dublin, so how do I connect it to my cable TV, just the standard NTL that you get in Dublin, BBC1/2 ITV C4, RTE 1 & 2 etc, not NTL digital or SKY Digital.

I will be moving out soon enough into a new apartment so it will need to work with NTL digital as I imagine this is what I'll end up getting.

I have a Imac G5 first generation, cheers!

It's very straight forward. Simply connect the coaxial cable from the NTL box to the EyeTV unit and then connect the EyeTV unit via USB to the iMac. The software will do everything else. If you have any questions Elgato customer support are very good in my experience.

Just be careful which EyeTV you purchase as there are some that are good for digital etc. I think that the New EyeTV EZ is the current equivalent of the USB unit that I have. The EyeTV 200 is the next one up that should work with NTL in Dublin. The difference between the two out side of price is the 200 has its own hardware processors that convert the signal on the unit and the EZ uses the Mac's resources instead. Hope that makes sense. The G5 should have plenty of power/resources to work with the EZ.

Best of luck in any case,
    Peter
