That graph is a good reference for finding performance in terms of speed... but processors have become so fast these days that people should start taking things like power consumption and heat dissipation (sp?) into account aswell...

    Excellent link.

I got my first AMD (Turion 64bit ML-28) a few months ago and I'm very impressed.

    LOL
i was waiting for some one to get picky...honestly i did see any GFX card specified but he does identify what ram he use ie DDR400 or DDR2 533 depending on which Processor type is under test
I dont think the GFX card is an issue anyways it a processor test

You can check the graphics card by clicking on the relevant bar on the diagram. Top few all seem to use a 6800GT.

I generally refuse to follow a link to THG, on principle, but I'm curious...

/me wanders off to take a look...

    Certainly not just you :D

Although, to their credit, it is a pretty good idea.

Now I'm not prone to hyperbole... but that "guide" is the one of the biggest load's of crap that I have come across in a while!!

I'm not the biggest of gamers, but since when is 1024x768 a good resolution to game at (Doom 3)?
I see one of the biggest games of the last year, Half Life 2 (or indeed anything based on the source engine), is left out of the reckonings. Not very fair considering the differences in best performing hardware between it and, say, Doom 3.

Bah, after further looking at it it seems as old as the hills - perhaps January/February 2005? All the newer cores by AMD have been left out, X2's and San Diego and Venice cores, and even the Pentium dual cores have been left out. And the newer AMD (and possibly Intel) chipsets have been left out too, e.g. nForce4 - and thus the graphics cards are most likely all AGP too...
It's difficult to get any of those AMD cores now, although they were very good.:(

This isn't a graphics card rating... the reason for 1024/768 is that the graphics card most definately is NOT anywhere near maxed out at that res. Therefore the only differences in performance are due to the CPU. Its a CPU benchmark, thats why its done this way!

EDIT: Even still... i don't really trust Toms Hardware. They're too biased at times. Way to biased.

    Pentium mobile yeaaa !!!

if your CPU uses 100w more than another type then you are paying 1c per hour more for the electricity. Only really matters if you have a machine on 24/7. Does not matter if you use electricity for heating.
