Just wondered if this gizmo still works when your sky subscription elapses.
Does it even work with FTA channels?

    Yes. :)

Of course, all the channels you used to subscribe to will cease, you will get a banner saying to view this channel call phone number to upgrade, but, you will see BBC 1 and 2, and the other BBC channels (and soon, ITV) via the other channels option. See the sticky on the main forum page if you havent done so. Sky News, CNN, ITV News and loads more are FTA.

Thanks DMC.I missed out the + after sky.Sorry.
So I want to know if the sky+ box with its recording capabilities will work after the sub runs out?

    Recording won't, no. :(
You need a valid subscription to Sky to make Sky+ record. Either the monthly fee (€15?) or subscribe to at least Sky Sports or Sky Movies for no monthly fee. Either of those make Sky+ record again.

Thanks again DMC.Think I'll give it a miss for now unless there is something similar for FTA.

I think in theory you can get a 15 Euro Recording only sub.
Works then for the free channels, but only those on Irish EPG.

There are MUCH better PVR boxes for FTA, some also play MP3, Camcordervideos, allow ethernet, usb, firewire or Wirless PC connection depending on model.

Can control two motorised dishes or 2 x 4-way diseqc switches.

Capacity up to 400G rather than ther 80G of Sky+

    No ongoing charge whatsoever.
