Playing tennis under lights....

    Hi everyone,

    Just a question for all the tennis players.

    How do you feel playing under lights affects your game?

    I'm convinced it upsets my timing, especially on the serve & volley. Although the groundstrokes suffer too. Much more off the top of the frame compared to the same balls, opponent etc during the day....

    Thaoughts?

    Depends on the lights / ball / surface. Lights that are placed near the base line for serve are a complete pain in the arse. Also the kind that throw out light like:

    /// \\\

    Instead if the better ones (imo) like

    |||||

    I find that playing on the clay-like colour omnicourt surface under lights is *worse* than the standard green. I reckon its due to the reflective nature of the green colour over the brown/clay colour. More light comes off the green so it's easier to pick out the ball at speed.

    If you play most matches in your own club then its ok as you can get used to it. But nothing throws me more than having to get used to other club's lights, especially in opens where you just have one match to adjust and if you loose yer out.

    I Agree that it depends on the lights and the angle of them,, i find i lose the flight of the ball in the lights from time to time which messes up my timing and serve! Some courts use kinda orangy lghts almost like street lights which are a nightmare to play under!:mad:

    I dont like playing under lights in general.
    I find there are alot of blackspots and the I find it hard to get the correct timing.
    In my club they have resurfaced the hard courts with a new type of astroturf which is a dreadful surface to play on .
    Under lights the ball hardly bounces and skids off at crazy angles.
    I seem to be getting a high amount of aces now as the ball zips off the surface.
