Can someone recommend a free programme that gets rid of a trojan virus as well as a few others!!

My AVG will only scan it, it wont delete the files

boot up in safe mode and run avg or check on avg site for specific virus removal tools ,http://www.grisoft.com/doc/112/lng/us/tpl/tpl01. if running xp make sure to turn off system restore beforehand as virii hide themselves in the protected restore area.

If dont want to buy software did you try searching for the file that AVG found and deleating it!

You could try Panda AV, ZoneALarm AV, Norton 30day trial etc

If I do that then it may not be uninstalled properly

Every I download scans it, but wont remove it unless I buy something.

Surely there must be something that does this for me?

That's the type of virus, not the name of it. AVG should tell you what the trojan is actually called.

how do you know you have a Trojan? what is its name?
My guess is that AVG did its job by detecting and reporting the name of the virus,

It probably can't delete it because it's currently in use, pretty much any other program you find will have the same problem, even ones you pay for. Reboot the computer in safe mode and then run AVG, it should remove it. If it still can't, download and run HijackThis, it'll give you a list of all programs that run at startup, find it in the list and untick it so it won't start at next boot, restart the computer and run AVG again. If it doesn't show in HijackThis at all, there's a few other programs listed in the free software sticky that also list startup programs, one of them might see it.

    Tried it. Didnt work.

AVG just wont put them in the virus vault, why?

Surely someone must know of a free programme that will identify a virus and simply delete it.

All the ones I tried so far just scan and maby says register(pay) to delete

AVG offer a 14 day trial of the professional version. So download and update it. Find and remove the trojan.

It will get rid of the free version, but you can simply reload it after the virus is gone.
