im aware that obviously the new transport plan is focused on the greater dublin area, but i create this thread to specifically focus on the cities and areas outside the g.d.a.

i see in the other thread mentioning improvd rural services, luas like line for cork(highly unlikely i'd imagine),athenry-ennis line reopening.

    i suppose a wishlist for me would include (please excuse the cork focus);

improved commuter rail services for all the provincial cities(no doubt midleton line will come under this plan despite being announced 18months ago).

improved city bus services(new routes/upgrade of commuter routes to city routes like ballincollig in cork(232) and more bus')

development of park and ride sites across the cities and towns(blackash in cork being the role model, another one hopefully on/near dunkettle interchange.in limerick one on the ennis road is surely a must)

To be fair, Luas is what is just suited to Cork. Dublin is too big for Luas and I think we got it all Pete tong.

Maybe they should look about tram lines in Cork ?

More of a priority however, is commuter services. A Navan rail line would be a god send for anyone working in dublin and living in Navan.

Commuter rail in Cork, Limerick and Galway, nothing too fancy but clearly the infrastructure is more or less there need a few stations. Its reasonable and backed with proper planning would work

Midleton is just phase one in Cork

Bit of proper integration with buses, its not hard sure the bus station is next door to Galway and Limerick stations

It could all link up nicely providing a regional service stretching from Galway to Athenry Ennis Limerick Mallow Cork Midleton simple and quite reasonable on cost terms

Though on the numbers Navan both to Dublin and Drogheda is really must have, the entire polulation of Sligo is under 60k, population of Navan is heading for 60k and its just one town

For Cork the wishlist for me would be

A rail line, be it commuter or luas like from carrigaline to the city via mahon.
Carrigaline has the highest car commuting ratio in the country, something should be done about it.

Luas like train from Ballincollig and maybe rail communter services from Bandon Macroom and Fermoy via Rathcormic and Watergrasshill.(In the long run)

Implimentation of a north ring road connecting up the Ballincollig bypass and the N8.

The upgrade of the N28 to dual carriageway standard.

The upgrade of the N22 to go ahead ASAP

More "Green routes" along the suburbs and the seperation of the cork bus service from Bus Eireann ala Dublin Bus E.g. Cork Bus

More Park and ride facilities although I think they are going to roll out another 3 like the blackash I remember correctly

If they could do that in then next 20 years then id be a happy with it

Thee Luas is not some massive success. It cost a lot more than costed at. It is more expensive than the bus. Loads of crashes. The amount of people being transported is not as amazing as intended as many people think as it took many passangers from the working bus system.
Eco friendly buses and purpose built roads is cheaper, easier and more versatile
