What's a good pedal to give yourself just a little bit of bite for taking solos and songs that need a bit of dirt? Nothing filthy or fuzzy, just a bit..un-clean.

I'm thinking maybe a Ts-9 but I thought I may aswell put it to you folks too.

Tube Screamer and Boss OD1 would be the classics, there are also a few volume boost pedals (Seymour Duncan have one with 25dB of clean volume increase) worth checking out too.

TBH it's a preference thing whether to for volume increase and drive the amp harder for more distortion or keep the same volume and introduce pedal distortion before the amp.

Maxon OD808. I needed that extra something as well for solos and its absolutely perfect. Using a Peavey Classic 50 tube amp and although it sounds fantastic it just didnt have the sustain with my LP at lower volumes. Unfortunately because its a fairly high watt amp regarding tubes, I cant turn it up to really warm and drive the tubes but with the OD808 it adds a very nice warm boost, plenty of sustain. In fact I usually just leave the pedal on when playing my amp. It just makes the tube distortion so much nicer. If you turn down the gain then its also perfect for boosting pedals. I use it to boost both my clean and chorus sounds for a much nicer, clearer effect

    I've got a boss sd-1 and I love it.
I put it through my LaneyGH100 and its great for a volume boost or for an extra bit of grit when needed.

i had both the od-1 and the ts-9 and i loved em both but i found the od-1 was better with an eq pedal (boss ge-7) and the ts-9 held up on its own...so ts-9 would be my vote.

also hao rust booster looks sexy

I didn't get the chance to record it before the mod. But it is a massive difference. A friend is going to be getting a stock ts9 soon. So when he does I will do an a/b. I will post up an sound clip of the modded ts-9 in a day or so. But it''s amazing i love it!!!

I bought a pete cornish ss-2 a few months ago and it gives the best overdrive i've heard from a pedal by a long way... better than any tube screamer or similar (that i've tried anyway). With the gain at minimum setting it's a near perfect clean boost... doesn't affect your tone, just very slightly compressed, and as the name suggests gives great sustain. Turning up increases the od very gradually so you can get as subtle a sound as you want. It is expensive but in this case you do get what you pay for.

Check out fulltone.com - they make some mean pedals.

    Especially this one.

I tried out one of those seymore duncan boosters but all it really offers is a volume boost which isnt really what I need.
That fulltone sure as heck sounds pretty good, just a little bit pricey though.

last night with the band i just used my amp distortion and a mid boost from my eq pedal and it sounded great tbh

My problem is that my amps drive channel is bloody difficult to work with.
It's a blues deluxe reissue and the drive channel is independant of the master volume which means it has to be constantly adjusted for each volume change.
