Not Smoking...

This is not an anti smoking thread by any means but I was curious is there anyone hear that has never smoked...I mean has no idea what it even feels/tastes like to smoke...

I'm 25 now and I have never smoked and I can't even say why...when I was in secondary school all my mates smoked but I really couldn't be arsed...I think it's the smell of the things...

So, this is not a smoking poll as such (as in who smokes and who doesn't), rather an exercise to see who has or hasn't ever smoked.

(And don't even ask for an Atari Jaguar option because frankly I have no idea what that means)

Anyway, I don't smoke. Never liked the taste or smell. For some reason I have been known to smoke the odd ciggie when I'm very drunk, rarely happens but it does. Hate the taste in my mouth the next morning though.

i dont smoke but like rabies i do have an occasional cig when i'm drunk...its weird!!

Then you smoke. If you go for a medical and tell a doc that he will say you are a smoker. I went to a doc once and he put down on my medical form that I smoked .005 cigarettes a day all because I had the odd fag when drunk.

I have never smoked and never would, Im no angel by any stretch of the imagination but I find it disgusting... each to their own and all that but its not for me at all... yuk

Yeah I've tried it, but I'll rarely smoke, only at a party maybe. I couldn't take more than the one though, more than that makes me feel terrible in the aul' stomach.

Pighead doesn't smoke - and has never smoked - cigarettes, but I DO like the smell of a fine pipe, and I occasionally sniff a pipe. I probably sniff a pipe 1-2 times a month.

I enjoy sniffing pipes and believe it adds to an evening's experience of a fine steak and a glass of port. I love the manly smell of its sweet aroma.There are many things in life that can be enjoyed in moderation, but are harmful if abused - tobacco, alcohol, fatty foods, etc. If used excessively, all of these will shorten your life, but used appropriately, they add enjoyment.

I smoke when I'm quite drunk, but I actually buy the things beforehand when I'm sober. I wouldn't bother but I always smoke when I'm drunk and end up asking just about everyone around for a cigarette all the time and look like a scabby git. It's weird because I tried smoking when sober and I just don't like it at all. So there's a box of cigarettes in the drawer below me but not only am I not even tempted to light up... if I did light up I'd probably just put the thing out after 10 seconds.

I smoke every so often, usually when I'm drinking.

I've never actually bought a pack (well, I suppose I've provided the money, but that was for mixing with stuff), but if someone offers me a smoke, depending on where I am or who I'm with, I'll take one.

Generally the reason why I don't smoke is because my mother would smell it a mile away and question me like crazy. If I'm somewhere that I can blame the smell on someone else, I'll smoke. It's not that my mother would punish me or anything, but she'd be really disappointed and she'd make a big deal of it. My grandparents smoked and they both died of cancer, so my mother is fairly anti-smoking. It'd break her heart to know I smoke (nobody else in my family does).

think sometimes if your parents dont smoke, your more likely not to smoke than if u grew up in a family with smokers. in my house nobody smokes, if someone has visited that smoked, we can alwayes tell straightaway, we're used to a non smoking environment. im anti smoking and a lot of it probably has to do with my upbringing

What does being "anti-smoking" mean? You think it should be illegal? Or you just don't approve of it?

ah i meant i dont really approve, think everyone's entitled to do what they want to their bodies.. but it really bugs me when people blow smoke in my face :mad:

The drinking and drugs I can see some appeal to, drugs more so in a way but the smoking thing just goes right over my head. I really don't understand it at all. I don't see the hook that it has to get people interested. Drink (at a certain level I guess) gives people confidence, some drugs help people escape, create etc but smoking is totally insane to me. Still, it doesn't bother me to be honest as more than half of my mates would smoke regularly and it's none of my business to tell them what to do.

Can anyone explain the social smoker thing? Not having a dig at ye, I just can't understand what the story is with it.

I have tried *ahem* rolled cigarettes that contain at least some tobacco, and I'm partial to a puff on a cigar after a few pints.

That's how I started smoking cigarettes. When I started smoking rolled cigarettes that contain at least some tobacco i couldn't inhale properly and would cough alot and my friends would laugh at me. Then I got the hang of it and now smoke when drunk like I said above. I don't see it progressing any further than that though.

Well to me, the appeal of smoking is that it is really relaxing. It gives me a wonderful feeling all over my body.

That's basically it -- it's just another drug, mate!

I don't really understand it either, lol... Maybe it's to do with guilt... when you're sober you might feel guilty about smoking, but when you're drunk you can say, "arr I was drunk!"

Again, I don't know, but I enjoy it anywho.

Cool - one of those things which is rarely answered without a war of words between smokers and non smokers! I wonder how many people on here have tried none of the things mentioned above? Btw, I'm 24 so I'm not some punk kid!:D

I've never tried it because I just dont like the smell of it and generally smoke gives me coughing fits.

when i was younger i used to get coughing fits as well from being in a smoky atmosphere eg bar pre-smoking ban, my eyes would water and id have to leave. head wrecking..

I'm the only one in my family who doesn't smoke. Never have and definitely never will. Doesn't appeal to me at all.

I don't smoke, but I had one or two just to see what they'd be like. Never saw the attraction really. I smoked a few joints back in the day too.

I wouldn't touch them with a pole now...

Yeah I used to work in a pub as a lounge girl when I was still at school and I would have to wash my hair at least 3 times to get the stink of smoke out of it.. I think back then people just accepted that it was ok until the ban came in, I think now even smokers would have to admit that its nicer to go home and not stink of other ppl's smoke, not to mention the odd burn hole you'd find in your clobber..

I never saw the point of trying if I didn't want to make a habit out of it.

There were other reasons also, among them the fact that I was so uncool it would have looked like a painfully obvious attempt at being cool, which would have only made me more uncool AND smelly.

Am I imagining it or is it becoming socially... not unacceptable, but frowned upon, to be a smoker nowadays? I've noticed that with my family for certain, but also with some of my friends...

You're dead right, I have friends who smoke and they'd often try to pass it to me to hold for a min for one reason or other and Id always say feck off, even holding a lit ciggy for a min leaves a stink on ur fingers.... Rotten some people might find that a bit ott but its just the way I am, call me a fussy be-ach... I dont care :rolleyes:

Have never smoked, have never done drugs, have never drank coffee, V rarely drink tea. (God, I sound really healthy don't I)

Haven't been able to eat for 2 days as it seems the stupid amt of alcohol I drank at the weekend has made my mouth & throat raw!!
(Ah well, guess we can't be good at everything!)

the smoking ban is brill, seems like a lifetime ago that people would light up in the pub or wherever, i used to work as a waitress, hated cleaning ashtrays :mad: and of course not stinking like an ashtray when u get home is a bonus
