They're changing the name of Howth Junction to

"Howth Junction and Donaghmede Station" rolls off the tongue doesn't it...

Im glad Howth Junction was always a confusing name...

Of course one side of it is still Kilbarrack.... hmm they could change Bayside Station to Baldolye, Sutton to Portmarnock

Are you serious? That is a tongue twister and a half! IMO it should be simply called ''Donaghmede'' because every station should represent a place.

Same with Bayside station. It's smack right in the border between Baldoyle and Bayside and I feel the station should be named ''Bayside/Baldoyle'' station since it represents both areas. Apparently the new station between Howth Junction and Portmarnock will be known as ''Baldoyle'' station but the fact is that the new station will be further away from the centre of Baldoyle and won't be near to most Baldoyle residents in comparison to Bayside station will no doubt cause some confusion.

New station north of Howth Junction is to be know as Grange Rd, well thats what Iarnród Éireann have it down as on their maps

There was a Baldoyle station north of Howth Junction many moons ago

I think the Howth branch stations where renamed in the past

We had some great fun with this on the Southside, Seapoint, Seapoint and Monkstown, Salthill and Salthill and Monkstown

Howth Junction is Howth Junction if some one had a bit of imagination both Kilbarrack and Howth Junction would be bulldozed and a new station placed in the middle which would make life a lot easier

If they do a dual-language announcement they would have to start before Kilbarrack.

    Where did you hear that?

I talked about that on another boards way back in February. Weird eh?

    http://platform11.hyperboards3.com/index.cgi?action=display&cat=welcome&board=NIR&thread=1109353347

"What does anybody think of the idea to rename Howth Junction to Donaghmede?

The station, which is currently undergoing the largest upgrading work of all the individual stations, should better represent the community that it serves.

It would be an apt change to coincide with all the new 6.14 million euro facilities that are being provided by Iarnrod Eireann such as 3 new terminal buildings, a new Pedestrian link bridge, new approach roads and extending and upgrading the existing platforms.

Confusion relating to Howth and Howth Junction Stations would cease and it could act as a catalyst for the area. A station reflecting the local community and a station that the commuting public can relate to.

Howth Junction has always had a bad name and what better way and opportunity to give it a proper overhaul than to rename it as Donaghmede DART Station.

Im open to suggestions by the way, such as Baldoyle or Donaghmede & Baldoyle...etc."
