http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/23404489/ --"One Weak Link... Can Break the Chain"

    http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/23403921/ --Sepia Shut

http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/23585533/ -- I took this photo as I am now aiming my photography at my portfolio. The theme I am trying to depict is that of Growth and Decay. Whether it is in society, nature or even people, I have to capture it in photos. In this I am trying to display the decay within social classes, and the terrible condition which some people must endure. Using the gloomy shadows and bright highlights, I’ve tried to capture the ruthless distinction between classes. I hope you enjoy, and that you appreciate your life. If you are reading this, then you are in a much better situation than a lot of people.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my photography. If you wish to comment, feel free to do so. I greatly appreciate any feedback.

The first one from behind that guy back and the one in the alley are my favourites... the sunset(-ish) one is very nice, the silhouttes set off the rays stretching upwards very well, frame it even. The one in the alley is pretty powerful, perhaps 2 steps to the left and it would have been perfect from my perspective. Very gritty and real.

    Nice work

Ok, i don't usually like critiquing photos but i have to here. The first one is a very nice picture, the rays work well, and the silhouettes are sharp, and also there is no blow out.IMO, the chain and the door both look OOF, and tbh, arn't the most interesting subjects. If you were trying to get the whole rusty/wrecked feeling, i think it would have worked better in colour. As for this:

this is a load of b***** imo. The way i see, concept photography is meant to be subtle. You take the photo and let people decide for themselves what it means, maybe with a title to the photo/collection. There's no point in forcing your idea on someone else. Takes away from the point.

As for the actual subject, firstly, how could bright and darkness depict social distinction, when the subject is the lodging of a homeless person. Surely, to capture the distinction, you must have an instance of both high class and low class in the same photo. Tbh, i think the artsy fartsy stuff is going a bit far. You're so caught up in the art of things, that you've contradicted yourself. You've gone from trying to depict the decay within social classes, to the dinstinction between social classes, all in a cliched picture of street housing.
I hope you enjoy, and that you appreciate your life. If you are reading this, then you are in a much better situation than a lot of people.

This is the kicker. The Godly message. No offence, but at 17/18, you're not in a position to lecture the masses about appreciating life. And to assume peoples situation and act as if you understand society or something? Retire your artistic liscense and just take photos.

Yes, yes, yes. I've red some of your posts, Shrimp and they make me cringe most of the time! Sounds like you're trying waaay too hard to be "arty".

you're definitly pushing the art ticket way to far, trying to much to be profound, art is never 100% intentional, its more about other ppl's perceptions than your own. let other ppl decide what they think your photos mean rather than ramming what you want them to think down their throats. having said that, i really like the first photo and the one of the chain, the others don't really do anything for me.

You three may not realise it but everything you have just said to me is a massive contradiction. You are telling me to "let others decide" but in doing that you are telling my what to do.

    TimAy:

"this is a load of b***** imo" --

If you are prepared to tell me my opinions are bullshít, then you have to realise that I have no reason to even register yours. However, all I can say is that my "lecture"(all 2 sentences of it) to me isn't a some overly confident "Godly message". Maybe it is not me who that must retire my "artistic license" but rather you who must retire your artistic ignorance.

    Rojo:

I would appreciate it if you would actually contribute to the thread in a more constructive manner. Your post was irrelevant.

    Mickeroo:

Thank you for your feedback on the photos but still you feel the need to twist the knife in the wound. I don't see why you have to jump at the idea that I am trying to be "profound" and "arty"; I'm not.

I don't want this to be an argument, because to me your posts would indicate that.

    Thank you Rhyme...

no man i aint telling you what to do and i didn't mean to seem like i was attacking you in any way, i just think think you should let your work speak for itself, and it is good enough to speak for itself!:D

OK, I must have misinterpreted your post, after all the comments I had received before it. Thanks for your feedback!

I really don't have to say anymore.

How was my post irrelevant? I'm telling you along with others that you are trying to hard for the "arty" feel, it makes your work incredibly cheesy...
This is something a slightly different for me. I was sitting at the desk and noticed that my jeans had a great colour/texture. I also liked the folds in the material. That along with the stone-washed effect really does imitate old aging skin. i hope you enjoy, and I appreciate you taking the time to look at this piece.

^that was a quote from your deviantart page, as an example of the cheesiness!

Just tone it down maybe, and as some-one else said let other people make their own opinions on your work.

Don't tell me what to think. End of discussion.

Oh my good God. He is in no way telling you how to think. All we are doing is expressing our own opinions. Which you asked for.

Then don't tell me what to think by cramming down a load of arty shit down my neck with descriptions of your photos?

    OK?

Shrimp, you take inately mundane photographs and try to make them into some kind of social commentary, when in truth, they're just boring photos.

Some are good, the rest are boring. Stop trying too hard to push your photography.

    S.

I amn't trying to push anything on anyone... as I said before, case closed..

Sorry, I didn't mean push your photography on anybody. I meant you're trying too hard to push it in a particular direction etc.
