are they USB devices? if so, try a different USB port.

Did the devices come with drivers for ME or did the box say they would work with ME without drivers ?

Is ME patched to date ?
Have you checked for later USB controller drivers from the manufacturer ?

there are USB programs that will report what the USB chip sees.

Yeah it's patched to date, software/driver supports ME. Up to Date. Tried all the USB ports.

Any idea of some of the programs?

Delete your USB controllers in Device Manager and reboot.
Wait till they're redected and installed to plug in your usb devices.
    Worth a shot.

When I remove one of the 2 USB root hubs and couldn't get the computer to start until I put it into safe mode.

The camera came up in the device manager under imagine device and the phone data cable came up under modems. How do I get it to work from there.

So if I was to do it again (remove the USB root hub) do I start by puttin it into safe mode. Whats the best way without feckin' up my computer?

Problem...you can get them to work from safe mode I'm afraid.
Remove the "ghost" entries of the USB devices and remove both USB hubs from safe mode....reboot. It might prompt for the WinMe cd too btw.

Yeap, your best to remove these from Safe Mode.
