Quote to move "Sky setup" to new house

I will shortly be moving house, and therefore my Sky setup (Dish & Quad LNB, Sky +, Multiroom) to new house.

Any ideas of what I might expect to pay an installer to first decommission, the recommission as before in another location?

    Taking it down is easy.

Only getting the dish "right" at new location is hardest bit.

    Replace all outdoor coax.

Sky do or did offer a subsidies moving service.

Get a quote from an independant just to fit and align you dish. Everything else you could do yourself.

Assuming the existing dish is not on a chimney!

If the dish is older than a few years a new dish is a good idea and paint all except the front with hammerite.

A few days later spray the front with any matt paint of desired colour, that is metal free. (not Zinc primer etc).

Sky charge €62 for a standard move house installation. They leave the old sky dish there and place a new one in new house, so all you need to bring is box. Expect to pay more for multiroom.

    Uh-oh!

Thanks folks. Don't really want to avail of Sky service as that would interfere with cunning plan involving another Sky + plus installation, seperate phone number etc.

Got a quote from an independent for €180 -sounds very expensive to me. (Mind you I wouldn't really tackle the job myself anyway.)

If your current subscription is over 12 months old why not just cancel it and take out a new one at the new address? Get a new box, new dish etc. Probably the cheapest way to go.

    Or whatever Tony says.

This way I can do both - ie bring current setup, then...as above.

If you are taking out a new subscription how about asking the installer on the day to do the extra work. Sky's installers are poorly paid so you should get a reasonable deal.

Good luck in your new home

Yeah that's the way I'd hoped to do it tbh Tony - however I don't yet know the new phone number and when I tried to place the order they told me I'd have to let them know the number in advance. I strongly considered making one up, wth the intention that on the day of the install (at which point I will know it) I would simply tell them that they'd written it down wrong or something. However the guy in the shop said SKY might check number during the lead in period before install - which I don't really believe, but didn't want to mess up my plans for the sake of waiting a few extra weeks.

No matter, in 2 months or so I should have 2 Sky dishes, both with Quad LNBs, serving 2 Sky + plus boxes and the one vanilla box I have. Also I'll have the right number of points for future use (My God when I read that back, wtf am I doing with so much TV gear!!)
The indeendent installer is actually the guy used by the shop I'll be placing the order with, so he'll get the business on the new install all right.

Oh and thanks for the good wishes.

I recently moved an out of contract Sky+ subscription to a new address, was quoted the moving fee of €62 for a brand new dish and quad LNB at the new location, and allowed to keep my old dish and quad at my old location. No problems.

When on the phone to Sky to set this up,I was asked for a debit or credit card for the payment, but I said I did not have either and could they just add the cost to my next monthly payment. I was told this was not possible and having been left on hold for a few minutes, was then told they would supply and fit the new dish free of charge, which they duly did and the installer even ran an extra cable in for my FTV box also.

So I now have my Sky+ and FTV at the new location and a dish and quad at the home place which i will stick a box onto for FTA for the mum!!
